I'm going to try and get one when the stores restock, hopefully within a week. I've heard nothing but raving reviews of Wii Sports from everyone who's played it. It sounds like it'll be the party game until Smash Brawl comes out.

Because we can't do that easily. It's pretty trivial to play tennis or go bowling...

          your OP made me laugh.

I for one am ready to buy a wii over a ps10 an xbox 720 etc any day of the week...

I am ready to get back the name that I enjoyed so much so long ago, and frankly has been far too absent for far too long!!

While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

I had a really good time with Wii Sports. I suck with the golf, but got pretty good at the Tennis. Can't play Zelda until I finish Final Fantasy XII though.

Easy: you go to a court with some who's never played before and you will be bored to tears because of how much they suck. It takes a long time to start playing well enough for it to be fun. You give someone a wii controller, and they are fighting back well within 30 minutes.

It takes time to go to a court, but it takes 10 minutes to play a game on the Wii.

              Then there's the laziness angle.

Plenty of other reasons as well.

And then there's also Zargon's point: tennis is just one example. There are other games that use the same controller mechanic; point in case: shooting people or slicing them with a katana.

Because we're not all X360 fanbois?

Face it, sports games are really popular, and it's largely with people who aren't very good at sports themselves. Like me... That's why they're fun - they let you do things you can't do IRL due to silly physical limitations ...

I agree, so I'm not sure they'll be inclined to throw footballs like they would in real life. At least not until they realize it sucks.

Oh, you misunderstand me entirely. I would LOVE to go out and play any given sport, were I to be able to do so effectively. The fact that I am not really able to play most sports with any ability is what holds me back, not my athleticism - I just don't have very good reflexes, and I'm not strong enough or fast enough or tall enough to improve much.

Hence playing football on the computer is quite enjoyable (Though I'm not sure the Wii controller will be good for football; but BASEBALL ... wow ... ) Computer/console games have one huge advantage... a difficulty level ...

Asher can't comprehend the fact that reality doesn't exactly conform to his preconceived notions.

Hey, he's a consultant (right?). It's not his fault. Consultants are bred to have one point of view set before they walk in the door of whatever they're consulting about, and then convince everyone in the room that their point of view is the right one. Reality is not important to a consultant. Hammering their point of view eighteen ways until their recipients are senseless to argue (ie, Asher's Sony is 1.7b in the red... thread) is the primary tool of the consultant, and it is highly effective against less dedicated businessmen and women who actually have a home to go to with children and such, and don't want to work around the clock until the consultant gives up.

Now, Kuci, how long is it until you become a consultant?

I'm a strict 9-5er, with the exception of today when I'm an 8-7er.

It's fitting you're talking of reality with a gimmicky controller.

Show me one game so far on the Wii that is truly innovative beyond the gimmick phase.

Wii Sports, for instance, fall under the gimmick category.

I keep hearing a lot of promise about the Wii's control scheme, but in the end the games are what matters. Red Steel had a innovative controls but the game actually sucked.

While many XB360/PS3 developers supposedly focus on the graphics and not gameplay (which we've already discussed doesn't make sense, graphics teams != gameplay teams), it's an observable fact from the current Wii games that the developers are focusing so much on the controller that the gameplay suffers. If they focus on the gameplay (eg, Zelda), the controller's impact is very marginal at best.

Thus, while the Wiimote may be nifty to use the first time, so was Virtual Boy. In the end, gameplay and, yes, not looking like a 1999 PC game matters.

It's apparently a really fun gimmick...

I remember you dismissing the HL2 gravity gun as a gimmick, too. I watched my roomate play that game and it was anything but. You just use the word to mean "innovation in a product competing with one I like."
