Indeed. More fighter or WM levels would be better.

I always liked throwing in some levels of Monk or Paladin or some other class with good feats/saves in the first few levels in if possible.

I think I had a character once that was:
Monk 1 or 2
Paladin 1 or 2
and Sorceror 10 (or something)
I wanted to have the Charisma bonus to saves.. and I don't remember why I wanted the Monk??
This was before any expansions were out (I played the most before SoU release).

1 level of Monk would give +2 to all saves (which is good) and Cleave for free. But I bet he already has it. It also gives Evasion, which is of little value, as his reflex saves probably aren't worth a damn. It also adds this WIS bonus to the AC (he probably has a -1 there), but only wearing cloth, which he probably never does. Deflect Arrows at Monk level 2 is also not much of a benefit, as again it demands a reflex save and a plate fighter has the worst reflex of all classes.
Later Monk specials are marginally more useful, like +10% run speed at 3, +2 vs mind affecting spells at 3 and immunity vs disease at 5.
Monk levels would spoil his base attack bonus, though, which is bad.
Overall not worth the -20% XP penalty, I think. IMO Monks are best served pure.
Paladin would demand him to be lawful good. It would give him immunity vs disease at level 1, as only good feature. All other paladin perks demand a high charisma to be useful, which I would be surprised to see on a fighter/WM.
Nah, I think adding fighter levels up to 20 and then continue WM-ing is the best he can do.

But I can't for the love of god figure, what the monk levels are for. Perhaps Evasion? Or the WIS bonus to AC, although your sorcerer has probably rather a WIS penalty.
Remember though, for each 2 levels you water down your sorceror you lose a spell level. Like monks, I think sorcerers are best served pure.

My first HotU run was a fighter / dwarven defender. Ample HP and AC, and a quickly swung dire mace. In defensive stance in melee battle absolutely unbeatable. Very sucky against casters, though. And a greeeeat trap triggerer!

There isn't any point of better or worse. I wanted to play a DD, and I did it. Besides, as I mentioned above, I wouldn't play a WM in the SP campaigns (especially HotU), too many good weapons to find to fix yourself to merely one.

Pardon my stubbornness (and my dirty powergamery), but your AC as sorcerer will never be any good, so these +1 or +2 from monk levels don't help much. I played casters a lot and believe me, melee opponents make me the least problems. That's what stoneskin, improved invisibility (50% concealment) and damage shields are for. Beating on me, a meleer weakens himself while doing me no harm (stoneskin, greater stoneskin). The rest does one well aimed nuke. Nah, a sorceror doesn't need AC, at least in the medium and high level. And in the low, when you still need it, mage armor gives you +4. Use familiar and summons well, and you rarely will get hit.

I defied convention and went with Rogue levels. So I'm building this: F6/R5/WMx
If I want to play a magic user (maybe leading to Arcane Archer), what's a good epic module (or series of modules) for when I'm finished HotU? I was thinking of trying out the Aielund saga - anyone played that?
Edit: on the other hand, I checked out some of the Ravenloft modules and might want to do some undead hunting. Decisions, decisions. Who cares when NWN2 comes out when there's so much to do with NWN.Last edited by Stuie; October 6, 2006, 08:06."Stuie has the right idea" - Japher

I don't really agree on the weapon point. There are a lot of nice weapons for sure but the best warrior strategy is to take enserric early on and upgrade the crap out of it in the later chapter.
