36? WTF do you need that many hotkeys for?!

And I don't mind going into the spell section to pick a spell before casting it. I can't remember all of mine anyway (it's what I did in Morrowind as well).
because there are far more than 36 spells in NWN. If you are a fighter you don't really need that many. But as a cleric or wizard/sorcerer, that just isn't enough hotkeys.

    • That's easily used and even exceeded. NWN has 3 bars (normal, SHIFT and CTRL) with 12 keys (F1..F12). The normal bar I use for weapon selection (F1..F4), heals+search+sneak (F5..F8) and pet/henchman control (stay ground, follow, attack, protect - F9..F12). The Shift-bar I use for buffs, potions, protective spells and armor selections. The Ctrl-bar for offensive spells and combat arts. That's enough for most classes, but if I play a spell intensive class (like sorceror), I can get low on space.

Jesus! I guess another reason I don't play NWN! I dislike hotkeys a majority of the time. I can deal with a few handful, but above that, bleh... Hell, I hate (and have hardly ever used) the numeric keypad for movement in Civ games.

I'd rather use the mouse to click on the proper spell.

      • More evidence they created this for the XBox360 first and PC second

If you noticed... they came out with the PC and XBox360 version at the SAME TIME. To 'port' a game, you kind of need one to come out earlier. The fact is they created the interface so it'd work with both systems. Why make two interfaces when you can use one?

        • There really isn't anything PC centric in the PC version though. No improvements in that version over the xbox. None of the design seemed to have PC over xbox in mind either.

Luckily, the biggest problem is beginning to be solved. PC gamers have found a way to fit more items in the inventory.

            • Well, I shut one Oblivion Gate, I think I almost leveled up twice in their...

Does that mean that in order to get decent multipliers I will need to do some training before my next level up?

I am level 3, btw, I did sleep (and level up) in the chapel

              Spoiler:

I wanted to be ready for the castle (I told Martin to wait for me in the chapel)

              • oh and thanks everyone for using spoilers. I do plan on getting the game soon. And want to play fresh. So don't list any good loot I can find and sell for training. I'm trying to avoid character exploits my first time around. I want to level my character the old fashioned way. Whatever that is.

I can find the eVGA 7800 GS OC Superclock for $390 CDN up here in several stores, and it's a phenomenal deal.

My old card is a 9800 Pro, and the 7800 GS spanks it up and down and sideways and again for good measure.

                    • I like the quests this time around. Did one in the Imperial city.

                      Spoiler:
"Unfair Competition", about that woodelf who sells items from an unknown source. A nice quest, it involved some talking around to people, some investigation, some action, etc.

I remember in Morrowind, the actual quests usually took just a few minutes. Sure, you'd usually get distracted and do something else along the way, which was good, but it's grerat that the Oblivion quests are something that can be time consuming by themselves, too.

Also the AI is much better when it comes to following. I was escorting one NPC, and he could stay behind me alright. In Morrowind, I always had to slow down, and check behind myself every other moment because the AIs were dreadful at following you.

                      • and I usually accidently killed them when they were attacked by animals. I eventually gave up on those quests. I did like the one mages quest though, in that the follower had water walking. And I could levitate. So I didn't have to worry about the annoying slaughterfish.

                        • The AI really livens up the world .

I'm walking on a road to a city, see a bandit slaughtering some deer, he attacks me, a guard rides up on a horse, gets down and helps me. Or, I go into the mages guild at night - empty, I go upstairs to the living quarters, see some mages sleeping in beds, another going into his room and shutting the door behind him. Nice.

                          • So's you telling me that I need to upgrade my video card to play and rpg (instead of an FPS).

                            Didn't see that one coming.

                            • I love the way skeletons disintegrate when the deathblow is a fireball. Fleshy things are thrown back ten feet. Block! Swish! Block! FIREBALL!

I wonder if the enemy AI somehow learns from the player. At first it was easy to dodge ranged spells lobbed my way, but today the hostilkes started, to my great surprised, to dodge my own ranged spells! And they also shoot them slightly away from my current direction so that if I'm not careful, they'll actually hit me even though I'm trying to dodge them!
