  • There are people RETURNING the game because they think the interface was just a 'console port'
    Good 'ol PC gaming nazis. How should we call them, PC gaming snobs? anticonsolites? Damn anticonsolites! This anticonsolitism as to be stop!

    • Yeah, I was reading the thread in disbelief. I was wondering if something was wrong with me for liking the interface!

      Perhaps they played Morrowind for so long, they got used to the interface and didn't want it to change much. But to hate it so much that they are returning the game, blaming the 360? That's like returning CivIV because the interface was too "RTS-like".

      • The decision for Xbox 360 vs PC was easy for me: I've got a Radeon 9800 XT and Athlon 64 3200+. I'm a geek -- the graphical settings would need to be turned down to play.

        Also, part of the fun of Oblivion is in the immersion...and playing Oblivion on a big-screen HDTV with DD5.1 surround sound is quite an experience that I don't get on my PC.

        • Dang, my HDTV is occupied by my wife watching silly shows. So, sadly, it's only the PC version for me.

          Game arriving tomorrow. Got the email notification.

            And you'd need an XBox 360, or have you gotten one already?

            I also think my PC has a better sounds system than my TV (which uses the speakers on either side of my widescreen 30'' screen). X-Fi

              • Solver has a point here.

                And no, I don't have an XBox 360. And never will get one.

                • Me too. I never really thought of myself as a PC zealot or an anti-console person, but it transpires that I am very opposed to consoles, after all.

                    how much does an XBox 360 cost?

                    My tv screen is bigger. But then again, I sit further back. And my tv has terrible sound. I wasn't able to connect it to my stereo or 5.1 speaker system. the jack is broken or something. My tv is mono sound only.

                    but I hate to buy a video card and ram for this game.

                    • Hey, at least if you buy a new video card and RAM, those will be useful for many other things. A new video card would be pretty useful for just about any game, wheres more RAM is always useful, work, gaming, porn-browsing, whatever.

                      • I'll just copy and paste this from the thread that Imran linked to.

                        It looks like I have the bare minimum to play the game. But I'm wondering what it will look like at those settings. I was able to play Morrowind decently on my old computer despite it barely meeting minimum specs. Maybe this one will play decent too.

                        I have an Athalon 2600 +, 512 MB of RAM, and a RAdeon 9600 XT video card.

                        Minimum Playable: (least needed to be able to play the game half-decently; think moderate settings at 800x600)

                        * Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz, Celeron 2.6GHz, AthlonXP 2000+, or Pentium M 1.2GHz
                        o Any AMD Sempron, AMD Athlon64, AMD Athlon64 X2, AMD Opteron Intel Pentium D, Intel Core Solo, or Intel Core Duo will also work
                        * 512MB RAM
                        * GeForce FX 5700, Radeon 9600, or other similar video card listed in the "low-end" category or better (see the "video card ranking list" at the bottom of this post)
                        o Video card must have at least 128MB video RAM
                        * Windows XP (perhaps Windows 2000 as well)
                        * 8X DVD-ROM or DVD burner drive
                        * 4.6GB Hard drive space (full install?)

                        Medium-Level: (Enough to enjoy all of the features comfortably, high-ish settings at 1024x768)

                        * Intel Pentium 4 2.5GHz, Celeron D 3.0GHz, AthlonXP 2500+, or Pentium M 1.5GHz
                        o Any AMD Sempron, AMD Athlon64, AMD Athlon64 X2, AMD Opteron Intel Pentium D, Intel Core Solo, or Intel Core Duo will also work
                        * 1024MB (1GB) RAM
                        * GeForce 6600GT, Radeon 9800pro, or comparable video card listed in the "mid-range" category or better (see the "video card ranking list" at the bottom of this post)
                        o Video card must have at least 128MB video RAM; 256MB or more is recommended
                        * Windows XP (perhaps Windows 2000 as well)
                        * 8X DVD-ROM or DVD burner drive
                        * 4.6GB Hard drive space (full install?)

                        Recommended: (enough to max out the detail settings, and be roughly on a par with the Xbox 360 version)

                        * Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz with hyper-threading, Celeron D 3.4GHz, Sempron 3300+, AthlonXP 3200+, Athlon64 2800+, or Pentium M / Core Solo 1.73GHz
                        o Any AMD Opteron, or any dual-core processor, will work
                        * 1024MB (1GB) RAM
                        * GeForce 6800GS, Radeon X800XL, or other comparable video card listed in the "high-end" category or better (see the "video card ranking list" at the bottom of this post)
                        o Support for shader model 3.0 is helpful
                        o 256MB or more video RAM is recommended
                        * Windows XP (perhaps Windows 2000 as well)
                        * 8X DVD-ROM or DVD burner drive
                        * 4.6GB Hard drive space (full install?)

                        Ultimate Level (enough to take out everything; think 60fps @1600x1200, everything turned as high as it will go or higher)

                        * Intel Pentium D 3.2GHz, Core Duo 1.73GHz, Athlon64 X2 3800+, Opteron 165, equivalent or better multi-core processor
                        * 1024MB (1GB) RAM
                        * Radeon X1900XT or comparable high-level video card
                        o 512MB of video RAM recommended
                        * Windows XP or Windows Vista
                        * 8X DVD-ROM or DVD burner drive
                        * 4.6GB Hard drive space

                        • Yep, then you can probably play. So can I (hopefully). I'll be satisfied if it runs on the lowest possible graphical settings, as long as it runs.

                          • now the question to those who are playing. Is the game fun? What's the plot? What's your purpose? hopefully you aren't going around killing rats for no reason (I could play a mmorpg if I wanted that).

                              YES! The plot, from early on, so not very spoilerish, but I'll put it in a box anyway:

                              Spoiler:
                              The Emperor has died by assassin. He has an Amulet, which so long as someone with royal blood wears it closes off the door to Hell (ie, Oblivion). However, the Emperor's sons have all been killed in other assassinations at around the same time the Emperor was killed. However there is one other potential heir who was spirited away. You have to find him so he can wear the Amulet... that's as far as I've gotten

                              • Was there ever a game where the killing of rats had a reason?

                                I like the start, the rat killing like most games is just to figure out what you are doing. The beasties look good even when dead. The look of people & animals feels like they are live things instead of being built from the same thing the walls are I suppose.

                                I had my ass kicked by my horse. I stole the horse of course but thats not why he beat me up. I was exploring some ruins when some ghosts came, my weapons were ineffective. Ran back to my horse but the ghosts had us pinned against the wall. Thats when I remembered the magic fire bolt spell - got off the horse and started to kill the ghosts. Hit one down then fired on the other - missed and set my horse on fire.

                                Forget about the ghosts, deadrea - the whole nine yards. Those horses have some hitpoints and can dish it out. Damn thing chased after me for awhile. Had to use some healing potions. Finally got it down in health so it started to flee. I gave chase only to have a wolf jump out between us and attack me. Delt with the wolf but the horse got away.
