Yeah, I was reading the thread in disbelief. I was wondering if something was wrong with me for liking the interface!

Perhaps they played Morrowind for so long, they got used to the interface and didn't want it to change much. But to hate it so much that they are returning the game, blaming the 360? That's like returning CivIV because the interface was too "RTS-like".

The decision for Xbox 360 vs PC was easy for me: I've got a Radeon 9800 XT and Athlon 64 3200+. I'm a geek -- the graphical settings would need to be turned down to play.

Also, part of the fun of Oblivion is in the immersion...and playing Oblivion on a big-screen HDTV with DD5.1 surround sound is quite an experience that I don't get on my PC.

how much does an XBox 360 cost?

My tv screen is bigger. But then again, I sit further back. And my tv has terrible sound. I wasn't able to connect it to my stereo or 5.1 speaker system. the jack is broken or something. My tv is mono sound only.

Hey, at least if you buy a new video card and RAM, those will be useful for many other things. A new video card would be pretty useful for just about any game, wheres more RAM is always useful, work, gaming, porn-browsing, whatever.

It looks like I have the bare minimum to play the game. But I'm wondering what it will look like at those settings. I was able to play Morrowind decently on my old computer despite it barely meeting minimum specs. Maybe this one will play decent too.

I have an Athalon 2600 +, 512 MB of RAM, and a RAdeon 9600 XT video card.

Minimum Playable: (least needed to be able to play the game half-decently; think moderate settings at 800x600)

* Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz, Celeron 2.6GHz, AthlonXP 2000+, or Pentium M 1.2GHz
o Any AMD Sempron, AMD Athlon64, AMD Athlon64 X2, AMD Opteron Intel Pentium D, Intel Core Solo, or Intel Core Duo will also work

YES! The plot, from early on, so not very spoilerish, but I'll put it in a box anyway:

The Emperor has died by assassin. He has an Amulet, which so long as someone with royal blood wears it closes off the door to Hell (ie, Oblivion). However, the Emperor's sons have all been killed in other assassinations at around the same time the Emperor was killed. However there is one other potential heir who was spirited away. You have to find him so he can wear the Amulet... that's as far as I've gotten

Was there ever a game where the killing of rats had a reason?

I like the start, the rat killing like most games is just to figure out what you are doing. The beasties look good even when dead. The look of people & animals feels like they are live things instead of being built from the same thing the walls are I suppose.

I had my ass kicked by my horse. I stole the horse of course but thats not why he beat me up. I was exploring some ruins when some ghosts came, my weapons were ineffective. Ran back to my horse but the ghosts had us pinned against the wall. Thats when I remembered the magic fire bolt spell - got off the horse and started to kill the ghosts. Hit one down then fired on the other - missed and set my horse on fire.

Forget about the ghosts, deadrea - the whole nine yards. Those horses have some hitpoints and can dish it out. Damn thing chased after me for awhile. Had to use some healing potions. Finally got it down in health so it started to flee. I gave chase only to have a wolf jump out between us and attack me. Delt with the wolf but the horse got away.
