      The Wonderful Professor Morrisa

In addition to her supreme knowledge of all natural laws and phenomena expressed in her famous Theory of Everything, Professor Morrisa recently spent some time studying psychology. No wonder she managed to discern from the clash in the Senate between Captain Imperium and the Emperor's entourage that general Ordin would attack the hapless explorer. Her next move was logical.

      Professor Morrisa attacks! General Ordin

Her fleet unopposed, Professor Morrisa captures 2 general's bases without a fight.

I think that's the first time I've actually single-handedly eliminated someone. But what a great opening turn.

Hmm, sorry, my friday AND my thursday sucked

I'd suggest though in the future that OOBless attackers automatically fail to attack (not losing, but simply not attacking at all, as a failed order).

Well, he didn't need an OOB as there was nothing to fight. He just told his ships to go to your place, and lo and behold, there were no defenses there. If there were a single frigate with an OOB, though, he would have been fended off.

I think we need to make a couple of rules on this sort of silliness:

                    - If the attacker attacks with no OOB, and the defender has ships and an OOB, the entire attacking fleet is completely destroyed.

                    - If the attacker has no OOB, and the defender has ships but no OOB, neither fleet is damaged and no bases are taken.

                    - If the attacker has no OOB, and the defender has neither ships nor an OOB (as was the case here) then the attacker takes the bases.

                    - If an attacker with no OOB hits a shield, the ships are taken smallest-first, with no regards to weapon type.

That was my thinking, only there was more than a single frigate (damn it) attacking, in my case.

I think that if the attacker fails to send an OOB, he by default goes home - as a penalty for not sending an OOB, just as the defender loses by default if he fails to send an OOB. However, if neither sends an OOB, to me it's the first responsibility of the attacker to send the OOB ... after all, if no ships are destroyed, then no bases would be taken.

Basically, I think it's a bad idea to make it depend on the ships - you could make an argument that an attacker sending a single frigate against a defender with 100000 titans should automatically lose regardless of the defenders' OOB or lack thereof, since ANY defense OOB would win with no losses... yet we penalize the defender in that case.

I think it should be the same for the attacker, though I don't see this coming up too often. It's a 'penalty', not a 'realism'.

                          sent.

Oh and as to the OOB thing, one would naturally assume that order of battle would be meaningful in the context of a battle still without an oob nothing should happen.

I think that the defender should always be penalised.

So, my suggestion is: If the defender sends no OoB he loses his entire fleet and all of his bases regardless of the attacker's OoB. However, if the attacker sends no OoB and the defender has one, the attacking fleet is completely destroyed.

If the defender has no ships, the attacker always wins.

If the attacker with no OoB runs into a shield, it will be assumed for the purpose of taking casualties that his OoB was LFT-LFT.

Penalising the defender is in the spirit of this game which is supposed to encourage attacks.

According to the current rules, if snoopy had sent an OoB and built some fleet no attack would have happened because the rules stipulate that only the defending fleet can be destroyed for lack of OoB.
