The most important thing HoW adds to the IWD experience is the increase in resolution. 800x600 ftl.

Also, when I play it, I wont feel ripped off, as it was quite cheap.

True - I'm playing at 1024x768 (unsupported). Much better than the old 640x480.

What's the consensus on the 3e rules used in IWD2? Does it make for a very different game? I looked at some character creation guides and they made my head spin with all the new races/sub-races/class combinations. Just curious as I'm closing in on the end game of IWD1, and wonder what's next: IWD2 or NWN. Of course both are 3e, so I guess it's not a big difference rules-wise.

3e in IWD was kind of a hybrid. I think they were restricted by the game engine perhaps. Or perhaps they just didn't bother to include attacks of opportunity. This is why mages rock in IWD2. No attacks of opportunity!

sometimes I'd mirror image, stoneskin, and stand in a group of monsters and cast sunfire. 1 or 2 of them rocked everyone's world.

IWD2 is pretty amazing. It's much more fun to build a character in 3e than in 2e computer games!

esp with the subraces (which I don't believe NWN had- unless you modded them in).

I need to get my copy of IWD2 back from my brother... I never did start my game of BG2 yet. Some real life issues came up. I've been kind of preoccupied with a woman.

of course. I gave up on stalking years ago. Far too much work. Doesn't give me enough time for sleep and work. . I guess I don't have the dedication to be a stalker. Or maybe I just can't find a woman worthy of me stalking her.

Ok - I beat the Luremaster, got back to Lonelywood, beat the guys outside the inn and then went to the sea of ice for the final HOW battle.

Luremaster final battle --> Way too easy.
HOW final battle --> Much more difficult, but once I realized what was going to happen, I was able to rest, buff all my characters, summon some assorted help, and beat it on the second try.

                      My Luremaster battle was laughable...

                      Spoiler:
... I paused as soon as he was done talking, had my mage cast Finger of Death, unpaused, and the Luremaster dropped dead. Battle over. Either I got lucky with his failed save vs. magic, or his resistance is too low.

Now I need to finish the main IWD campaign, and then it's IWD2 time until the tax refund arrives and I purchase NWN.

I can't even remember the luremaster battle. guess it couldn't have been too tough.

are you crazy... that battle is tough as hell

the luremaster keeps calling in more and more heroes that crush my characters with just a few blows, and they have insane HP. I calculated elsewhere that tough humanoid fighters have 300+ HP

Just about every spell except magic missile and the like can't harm them due to innate immunity, and the few that actually can be cast on them are futile because their resistances are high.
On top of that the luremaster and his casters constantly cast dispel magic to remove my buffs so they're pretty weak in the end.. I only managed the battle by putting game difficulty on easiest

hmm, I only played IWD1 once. I may have to play again. I'd have to borrow it from my brother. Speaking of... he has my IWD2 game. I only played that once as well.
