Well, I feel like my patience paid off. I waited until he reached Fighter 6 to dual him to cleric (I think it was on DE level 3...), and then he flew through the Cleric levels. Nice to have an actual healer in the party now.

Now I'm waiting for my Fighter 9/Druid x to reach level 9. My patience is wearing thing on this one.

By the way - are there any magic scimitars in IWD? My Fighter/Druid will be quite lame without one. I know there is a "lucky" one for sale at a certain shop, but it doesn't have the blue border to indicate it's magic.

I think I've encountered a few, although I can't remember if they were worth it, ... but I don't think they were particularly powerful in comparison to other weapons.

My fighter 9/druid x is going to have five stars in long swords, so I wanted to be certain there'd be a magic weapon he could use (otherwise it would be Dalekeeper time and I'd move the stars to something else).

So, I found an item list for IWD that includes "Frostbrand" (+3 scimitar). Now I've heard that Drizzt isn't in the game so he must not be carrying it, and the item list even gives a location, map 7004 and some x/y coordinates. Not knowing or wanting to know what map that is, I guess I'll just keep looking and hope I find it sooner rather than later. But at least I know it's out there...

There's random loot to a certain extent in IWD, so there are many items you can't count on.

Oh, and the best weapon in the game is a longsword

Yeah - I kinda sorta knew that.

Eek - I was tearing through IWD until I hit lower Dorns Deep. The creatures there have slowed me down a lot. Upper Dorn and Wyrms Tongue were a cake walk compared to this.

Any suggestions as to when I should do Heart of Winter? I know I need to before the "final battle", but what's a good level range for my characters?

I wouldn't go to Heart of Winter any lower than level 11-12.

I finished Icewind Dale, and then moved on to Heart of Winter (well, did the trials of the luremaster before that actually); they have a different storyline anyway

The Unfinished Business Mod is really a must for any Minsc fans, it adds a quest for Minsc and alot of great dialog. There's alot of other great stuff in the mod that Bioware cut out before release of the game. Really a must have mod for any fan of the BG series.

                            not again!

tutu is kind of fun. But having played BG2 before playing BG1, I just can't play BG1 anymore. I played it through twice (and a half), I doubt I'll do it again.

I have been thinking about installing BG2 again in the last few days. Civ4 is the only thing stopping me from doing that.
Amusing that you guys all started playing again- around late december 2005, I finally opened a packet of BG2 that had been sitting around my house basically for the past 4-5 years after finally defeating IWD2.

I have to say, I really enjoy Black Isle's games.

For me it was the fight you get into at the bottom of the inn (in the town) after you complete Durlag's Tower in BG1 expansion. I can't remember the name of the creature. It perma-kills your characters. Actually the fight isn't so bad if you don't mind losing one of your characters (usually Imoen).
The bottom of Durlag's Tower is so much more frightening and tough than the top. I breezed through the top in several hours... the basement took ages... weeks even.

And Demogorgon isn't the worst of it- the puzzle with the illusory dwarves is terribly difficult and the **## dopplegangers are just insulting!

I'm thinking about playing a gimp party. Though I refuse to use Cernd. He really sucks.
I love cernd. He can melee and cast, what's more to ask!

I waited as suggested - all my characters were at level 11 or higher - and it was a breeze, although I have yet to do the "final battle" in HOW. Took a detour to Trials of the Luremaster first.

HOW seemed really short for an expansion. I would have felt ripped off if I paid full price for that. It did add some interesting new monsters, but even the worst of them were no match for my group. Guess I should up the difficulty.

Luremaster has been fun so far. A few really good battles and some interesting riddles to solve. So far I've cleared the four towers and now I'm in the crypt. Some surprises there, but again nothing my party couldn't handle.
