Here's a wacky suggestion to discourage "cheating":
The successful guesser must disclose his new word to the last word setter, who cannot play the next round but acts as an umpire for that round

And I don't care for the score much anyway. My point is that the game works pretty well now that we've cleaned up the gruff that plagued us earlier, and when something works well, I see no use for altering it.
