Defences reduce the amount of people who can attack you. To neutralise my defences someone needs over 100 battleships or to use at least 10 IPM's before they could even start destroying defences. Yes, there are people with over 200 battleships. Yes, people have many spare IPM's.

The trick is to make it unprofitable for these stronger players to attack you or less profitable than other targets around you.

In other news, if you are sending 150k of resources out to someone, check to make sure you have the right address typed.

That's why I stopped worrying about defense after someone came after me with over 250 battleships today. Good thing I checked during lunchbreak so I had ample time to get my resources off planet. There is no way to defend against that so I better spend my resources some other way.

I made that mistake while trying to raid an inactive. The guy I actually send my fleet to could have wiped me out. Luckily I noticed in time. Send him a nice message and thankfully he understood

No idea on the ratio of IPMs and defences. There is that raksim? program to calculate missile strikes. Or the formula thread probably has calculations relating to it too. Germanos would probably be better answering this question, as he has actually used them in combat.

I read somewhere that 10 ABMs are a good deterrent for raids. 125k metal, 25k crystal and 100k deuterium is a lot to spend before even destroying any defences, so my planet would need well over twice that much just for the attacker to make a profit.

Like Skanky said, use raksim to see what you can do. It's an online calculator and is not as easy as Speedsim to use. Still very usefull though.

Test various attacks. You can send out missiles to specific types of defenses, or go for a general attack.

Skanky mistakenly sent this guy 150 000 in Deuterium meant for me, and I sent him a message asking for it back (and hinting that if he didn't give it back taht I would take it back).

He first sent me a message saying he didn't speak english. Then he sent me this message which I assume is a complete surrender of all of his assets but I can't read it as I don't understand whatever language it is in.
