  • The problem with deathstars is it takes the enemy less to counter it with in terms of both research and resources. Building enough destroyers to give a 100% kill chance is cheaper than the DS itself.
That's why it's always good to accompany a DS with a huge stack of fighters..
I actually tend to think now that heavy fighters are better than light ones because cruisers don't get rapidfire against them, thus one cannot burn the fodder with a big cruiser force.

    • Once you've got the tech for battleships then I doubt you'll build much else beyond the more advanced ships occasionally. I gave up on fighters long ago.

      • some ******* from Hellas just tried to pull a one hour notice invasion with 36 ships. His tech is too high for me to mess with him: here's my defeat of his probe:

        • Whew, my private message to him got him to call off the fleet- I'm going to have to watch my back now though.

          Hmm... how best to defend...

He apparently has 36 ships and pretty good stats in research...

By the way, is the only way to fleetsave to send the resources to one of your colonized planets?

            • Just wait with getting your stuff safe just minutes before the attack. He probably scanned you and noticed there wasn't anything left and withdrew.

There nothing better than being attacked and losing zero resources

What did you say in your message btw?
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
              Once again...

              • Thanks for the offer Snotty. If he bothers me again, I'll be glad to take you up on it.

Hueij- actually he took my word for it that I fleetsaved- as soon as I logged on I mistakenly thought I had 46 SECONDS rather than 46 MINUTES to invasion so I immediately fleetsaved. Then I pinged him with a probe and sent him a message saying:

"Is there any particular reason that you attacked me when there are so many inactives floating around nearby"

his reply was "i needed the metal" then he recalled his fleet.

Then I replied- "well then go raid one of the inactives. Or maybe we could even trade something."

(eg: I had 90K metal at the time- stored)

                --
Now he promises not to attack me any more and thanks me for my advice (I gave him coordinates of one planet that gave me medium amounts of materials- If it gets this guy off my back- I'm happy)

                • so I immediately fleetsaved

Just wait till just before impact. That way he looses time and won't get anything. Defenses can be rebuild and with a little luck you can harvest his losses

I did that to a JO guy. Well, almost... It turned out I didn't have to fleetsave at all, he lost his fleet After I retalliated with everything I had he went noob on me and still is.

So I turned against another JO guy and then the JO-Alliance head guy started whining why I hit in them. So people in our own alliance told me to leave them alone because they were too strong, but I don't know how long I will stay away from them. There are quit a lot of good JO targets in my neighbourhood.

                  • has there been any good calculations on how fast mines give a return and at a level-say if i plunk 1600 down for lvl10,how long would it take to get it back and start making profit?
im hesitant to pour any more cash into mines without some info edit; Heres a post on it im checking out

No, you can send it anywhere, even attack (preferebly an inactive) with your goods loaded on your ships.

I usually do this when I go offline. No stuff left on the planet, and loot to boot

Downside is offcourse that the target wakes up unexpectedly (not a problem for me: I need to fleetsave my battleships as well, so I'm not really afraid my 100 ship force will be thwarted by a low ranked player).

The real risk lies in the fact that the planet gets deleted: your ships will immediately head back, and thus return waaaay before you planned them to. So don't hit an (iI). So send your big stocks to yourself.

At your level you want to get your mines leveled up as much as possible. A level 11 mine (can't look back at lower levels any more ) produces 941M per hour, so do the counting.

                        Build it!

You can see the production increase of each level if you click on the structure name in the buildings-screen.

                          From there, do the math

What's clear though is that the return on investment deminishes with each level (e.g. it takes increasingly longer for your investment to repay itself.

Therefor: colonize first, build up later.

But the increase over a level 10 mine is just 100 or so.

                            • I figure, from my sight-reading calculations that it doesn't make much sense to build higher than level 15 of any of the mines... and level 15/16 is about as high as it makes sense to build the solar plant- anything higher means you won't get your investment back for a week at the least...
