My computer has become seriously hosed in the past few days. I've played 3 seperate games and they've all demonstrated the same behaviour: The computer suddenly and completely freezes up with no warning shortly after the game starts, forcing me to hard boot (kill the power, then turn it back on). One of the games was Superpower II which worked just fine before I got a new video card and updated my video drivers. Right now I'm running another virus scan to see if the problem is there. Earlier I reinstalled an older version of my vid drivers. Same thing happened. And before that I reinstalled my old video card, still the same thing.

This sucks. I want to play cIV, not fight with my computer for hours and hours.

i haven't gotten it either. i don't want to have to go to uncle bill to get a new OS.

The professional reviews are outstanding... But the more I read in the Civ IV fora, the more mixed become the opinions about the game...

Some have truly big problems running the game out of the box... That's no biggie; patches will take care of it... I can wait until the Game of the Year edition comes out at half the price!

Serious, negative critique is immediately attacked by other posters and ridiculised as "My old Civ 2 or Civ 3 strategies don't work, so the game sux!"... Be that as it may, it's time for a new Civ experience...

I had graphics problems after installing the new patch, so updated my drivers. Within a few minutes of starting a new game I had a CTD (which may or may not be the game's fault) and just haven't gone back to it since.

Yes, a number of players - including yours truly - are having big problems.

Still it's fun when it runs.

And did that work for you UR?

I just completed my third virus scan (1st two with Norton, this one with HouseCall) so I have checked to see if my computer is behaving yet...

I'm pretty computer ignorant; what's a CTD? Complete and Terminal Disorder?

Heh, heh! Not so bad as it first sounded then... You know, all that Internet and computer lingo out there... All those abbreviations... It's like the military and the UN combined!
