I'm playing it. I like it. I'm still not sure about the longevity. I think I'll get bored of about as quickly as I got bored of civ3 (a couple of months). But like Civ3 I'll come back to it from time to time. But the same could be said of SMAC. I got bored of that after about 3 months, but then came back to it later on.

But the gameplay is still pretty much the same. Except you have new things like religion to deal with. So if you are bored of the gameplay, I'm not sure if this will do much for you. But if you still enjoy building cities and dominating the world, this game is for you.

And if you are into the builder style of player, you are really in for a treat. This is a builders game for sure. I love it.

Amazon.com (or .whatever ; I know there are non .com versions of Amazon) is how I got mine.

It is a very good game. And the best feature it seems to have is, that it unites the Civ2, SMAC, CTP1/2 and Civ3 crowds back again in a single game. Think of the potential of synergy this factum unleashes.

Sounds as if you have an addiction going there, Doc! Yes, the verdict is clearly in favour (but is it really the best Civ game ever ) and I'm definitely looking for a new Civ kick. Time to upgrade to a new computer!

Sparrowhawk, thanks for replying in my place. You're right on!

I haven't experienced the "just one more turn" feeling since the Civ2 days, but finally it's back... why don't I have as much time as I did back then

So far it beats every Civ game in all parts except one: Diplomacy... I really miss the option to trade some goods/luxuries for a tech

I finished a game as well before the DVD found its way into my drive.

indeed we have BlueO's city expansion mod from CTP2(i really like the cities in Civ4!), a good handle on the strategic goods+religion this time(also from the CTP2 forums i suspect ) - and the fact that a few of the CTP2 big hitters were helping with Civ4 can do it no harm what so ever.

Thanks to Snotty i got a look at it, and liked what i saw. So much so that i can finaly say i've seen a game that will make me upgrade from my P3 566 at long last. I was begining to despair that the PC game market was going to leave my interests behind - but Civ4 gets a from me. and i get a new PC from santa

                          It is GOOD!

I've bought it today. And for the past hour, I've been thinking to myself that I really, really, really have to go to bed, but I just couldn't

I've started my first game by playing normal speed, and I find it a bit too fast. I think I'll play on huge maps with epic time on my next game

First impressions are good. There doesn't appear to be one quick route to victory, specialist cities are encouraged rather than building everything. As someone said earlier if you play 'builder' then it looks like a big improvment on Civ3. Not sure about combat yet but it is better than 3's which was one of the reason i stopped playing - that along with ICS and everything be too conquest/war driven.
