Heroes of Might and Magic 5

It's addictive, but this has its merits, because it drags me away from EQ2. I'm playing it since Friday and barely logged in to the raids Sunday and Monday evening. Don't overplay this time is my motto, and a neat SP RPG is just what I need as distraction.

I'm playing the first chapter of the campaign the third time now. I had to learn the basics and I'm horrible at reading the manual. Think this time I got it completely right (even though the other runs were good too).

Never played HOMM5, played 2-4. HOMM2 was quite good and I liked the scenarios of 3 better, but the campaigns were much worse, as the AI didn't fight as well and the player heroes kept all their stats and levels but the AI heroes did not and weren't compansated nearly enough. HOMM4 was boring.

So are there any good custom maps designed by players for HoMM V in the same strain as for H3? I haven't been able to find as much creativity... there are maps for download on some sites- but it doesn't seem like maps are as big a "thing" as they were for previous H2 and H3 games... Is that the case?

Is there a place you still can get HOMM 2 anymore? I know where I can get HOMM 3, but HOMM 2 is nowhere to be found.

If you buy Heroes' Complete, it compiles H1,H2,H3 and all their expansions onto a 6 CD set. That might be available online. (I bought it around 2004/05 I believe).

Is there a place you still can get HOMM 2 anymore? I know where I can get HOMM 3, but HOMM 2 is nowhere to be found.

Also the HOMM5 Collectors edition came with HOMM2 for the EU anyway. Not sure about North America and different patches suggests different releases.

Haven't seen any good maps - the forums seem to imply that its not as user friendly as it good be. The final version (1.6 i think) is pretty good as an update of HOMM3 but there's not really enough if you've played previous versions.

Might revist HOMM2 though - haven't played that for must about 10 years or so?

Hmm... that's sad. The user-generated maps and the map editor were the main reason I bought H3. I suppose I'll have to pass on H5... and it looked so promising...

I've been playing a bit of HOMMV recently. Has anyone tried King's Bounty: the Legend? I loved the original so may well get this.

I bought a heroes complete (which is why I have heroes 3 still), but it didn't have HOMM2 included.

I'd love to see old school Vampire Lords again!

HOMM 2 was and still is my all time favourite of the series. HOMM 3 which has best playability or what you call it has awful artwork and music so... The last time i tried HOMM X the game felt oh-so-artificial. By that i mean that there's really no room for innovative gaming, testing and tinkering, if you want to win the map.

I just bought the package with the two expansions and some dark messiah game. I've never played any of the HOMM, so lets hope it doesn't suck.
