  • Its funny how huge a change they made to 'thieving' from Daggerfall to Morrowind.

In Daggerfall it was too tricky and unforgiving(like how ALL guards in all towns in the game world knew you were a thief the instance you got caught, and chased you on sight).

In Morrowind its rather odd how as long as your 'sneaking' you can lift stuff from under a persons nose, and even if its obviously gone, you wont get challanged.

If they fix it for Oblivion it would add quite a bit to the game imho. Sort of something along the lines of a 'Theif'(looking glass game) type experience - something a bit clever than they have used so far in the ElderScrolls games.

    • I love stealing . but I felt my theif type character just wasn't as strong as my fighter type character. So i preferred the latter.

But I enjoyed the thieves guild quests and morag tong quests.

I hope they change how alchemy works in Oblivion. They should just give you a big container to throw all of your components into. Then it tells you the different potions you can make based on what is inside the container. You select the potions you want to make and they are made. Very quick and easy. No more moving the slider back and forth to find the exact combination you need.

Alchemy Tip: Gather lots of Bloat, ASh Yam, and Netch Leather. Make a Fortify Intelligence. drink it. Make another and drink it. Repeat until your Intelligence is in the high thousands. Then make all of your other potions. You will make some incredible potions that can make you rich if you sell them or invincible of you use them..

        • I agree that there are far too many ways to ummm..... cheat your way in the game. Still i find it's now part of the fun for me to properly role play the game and avoid as many 'cheats' as i can(its not easy!).

Hopefully these gaps will get a little tighter in Oblivion, as having a good gaming challange is probably as important as having a large game world to explore and interact with.

I've got the Morrowind bug again

          • I have this game on both Xbox and PC and it is like night and day. It is so much more difficult to play this game on PC with all of the point-and-click necessary. Xbox is a perfect platform for this game. If you dont have Xbox version, get it. It will increase your enjoyment x10.

            • @ bfg9000, yes i do have the xbox version(game of the year edition - with the expansions), my pc's are not powerfull enough to run the pc version.

And i agree it makes a perfect playing experience on xbox, one of the deepest games on console for sure

The downside of the console version is not being able to play with some of the excellent Mods fans have made for the game

it probably wouldn't increase my enjoyment to get the Xbox version, considering I don't have an X-box. . I'd just be looking at a box I can do nothing with.

                • One of the NPCs in Balmora, an Orc, somehow fell into that river going through town. He just standed there in the river. So I created a ranged 'Frenzy Humanoid" spell and cast it on him while standing on the bridge above him. Then I shot one arrow into him. Now, every time I stop in Balmora, I make sure to walk by the river to see the crazy orc that splashes and swims around like crazy...

                  • @ bfg9000

yeah i had the same thing, but it was one of the guards instead. I guess he fell in after a hard night in the corner club or some other bar

He still gives me the noramal grumpy dialogue if i speak to him, i guess he's acting normal to try to save face or something?

I've decided when i've finished up as many of the fighter guild and Mages guild quests(already done 99% of the thieves guilds and Imperial legion quests), then i'm going to join one of the houses. not sure yet which of the three i'll go for?

                    • I uninstalled Morrowind today. I last played it Feb 2004, so it was time to say goodbye to it.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

                      • I just installed it yesterday. Good tag Skanky! - a new challenger enters the ring!

I just wandered about seeing some sights in the starting area. I have a Nord warrior because they look cool, and because I'm desperate to impress Child of Thor.
I did the quest that involved spying on Fargoth, even though I had a pretty good idea where the loot would be anyway - it was typically computer gamey. I am tempted to go and kill the smugglers, but also like the thought of chancing across a cave I haven't been in before at a high level and finding it full of first level smugglers awaiting slaughter.

                        • at the duke

Well i'll only be impressed if you can play this character with these rules:

                          1. without resorting to any spells except healing types and mark/recall/lock/unlock to help you progress in the game.
(i.e you can cast other spells/use other scrolls but not for example in combat where it can help you)

                          2. only use + keep one magically enhanced weapon or armour item at a time(and love it as a prized possesion!).

                          3. set the difficulty setting(does it have one on the PC version?) to atleast +70

                          4. Don't use cheesy cheat methods, of which there are many in Morrowind - uber spells/enchantments are out

                          5. only use one save per mission - if you die, start back at the begining - if you keep dieing its too hard for you so do something else until your tougher

                          6. try to roll-play as much as you can. e.g when doing thief type missions - you must try to stay in sneak mode untill you've completed the mission and left the area unseen. If someone sees you - your not a good enough theif yet and need to improve your sneak(or use magic to help stay undetected). etc

this is how i play, and it makes the game much more interesting(read difficult) i find

hmmm maybe i should ask have you played before duke o' york? as this may be a little tough if not

                          • No, I messed about on my friend's X-box, but this is my first proper game.
Maybe I should try to find someone easier to impress.

i have to say i like the PC version, and just don't mind the interface at all ... but us PC gamers get used to a certain style

And there are ... advantages to the PC game other than the mod.

Still if you are getting that feeling that after lv9 the game is getting a bit easy(which is starting to feel a little boring), then i'll be available to give you any 'Iron man' playing advice you like

Its a fine game to loose many hours in i find, hope you enjoy it as much as i do
