  • I just bought the GOTY edition for Xbox, so I will be replaying this game shortly (well, after I play KOTOR2)

    • I've always dropped my stuff inside the shop, no one has ever complained. it's funny when they won't deal with someone having that stuff in their inventory, but have no problem with skooma sitting on their counter.

The woman at the bottom of the mages guild in Balmora will by skooma and that moonsugar stuff.

      • Once on the floor of the shop the shopkeeper(or owner of house) will think it is now theirs!

Um. No. You can place it on the floor, counter, anywhere, just remeber wht you dropped so you dont accidently pick up something that isnt yours.

        • ah yes ok. strange but true - i was mistaken, probably getting confused with the 'once you've stolen a particular item from someone who offers to trade in that item, then they will think the item your selling is their stolen item thereafter' - something like that?

I'm lvl 40 now and have the first stage of my redoran stronghold built

I'm still getting an odd crash in my game(especialy going into and out of Skar in Aldhrun) - so i've taken a break and installed Daggerfall again(which so far has crashed less often!).

For some reason i find it much more of a game to sink my teeth into, for all its flaws.

So imho Morrowind is fun for a light rpg, Daggerfall for something more hardcore.

For example i'm actualy scared when i go into a combat situ in Daggerfall, something that rarely happend in Morrowind(even with the difficulty adjusted to +80).

Still i remember the grief of trying to find Daggerfall, and then the weeks of finding the right stuff to download to make it as stable as possible(patch+Andyfall), and then get a stable install, as each time you install it can vary on how stable the game will play!(or so it can seem).

I might run a Daggerfall thread to go along side this one

          • I think you can drop your stuff anywhere inside or outside. As someone else said, be careful that you dont pick someone else's stuff up. And also - dont drop it too close to where an NPC is standing or they might wind up standing on your stuff next time you see them.

I think I read somewhere that herbs and other alchemy components can decay after a while. Havent seen that happen myself..

            • I hate it when I'm going to select a merchant to sell items to, but I accidently select (hitting the spacebar) on an item on the desk instead. "now you die!" *reload*

              • In the Xbox version it is possible to cheat by using a "pick up item then drop straightaway before you get into trouble" method. I presume that this is not available on the PC version but would welcome confirmation.

                    • Does anyone have any problems with Xbox version freezing up or constantly saying "dirty disk error"? Its getting to the point that I cant play anymore because one of these things happen about every 20 minutes. I clean the disk often.. I think it has something to do with how many items you leave laying around and how many dead bodies you leave laying around.. Maybe I will try storing the items in a container or something..

                      • yes bfg9000, i think its a bug that Bethseda specalise in on the xbox, as Pirates of the Caribbean does the same eventualy.

The way to cure it is on the official faq for the xbox at the elderscrolls forums http://www.elderscrolls.com

Basicaly you need to load up three or four different games and then try Morrowind again.

The next stage in the problem is what i got - constant game crashes(black screens, usualy when loading in a new section of the game entering or leaving a building). I followed the advice for that and unfortunatly it looks like my save games must have become corrupted as i still get the problem to the extent the game has become almost unplayable

                        • I've done some research and it seems as if saved games of size greater than 200 blocks are guaranteed to cause trouble.

Here is a laundry list of things that you can do to cut down on the size of the files as well as preventing disc read errors to occur during gameplay. This is taken from Bethesda's support:

                          - Find a place to rest. If in a town, walk just outside of the town.

                          - Rest for three days straight.

                          - Once you have rested for three days, make a new saved game. Don't save over a previous game, make a new saved game.

                          - Once the game is saved, immediately load the game that was just saved.

This will help to clean up any items that have been left laying around, as well as reset any objects that have been moved in the game. The combination of these two items will help reduce the amount of memory needed to load up an area, as well as minimize the size of the save game files. This, in combination with the steps below, will help to prevent most problems from occurring.

Try and save on a new save game file every few hours of play. Most people find that saving their progress to a new saved game once they are done playing for the day helps to prevent problems from appearing.

Don't leave corpses laying around. If you kill something, dispose of the corpse. If the body has items you don't want, put them into a container. Items left in a container will disappear faster than if they are lying on the ground.

Don't move items that don't need to be moved. While it may be a neat trick to play on an NPC, rearranging their house actually takes up more of the Xbox's memory and increases the size of the save game file.

If you notice your inventory becoming rather full, take a moment to go through it. If there are any items that you find you don't need, either sell them or put them into a container.

Still those last two paragraphs are a little depressing, they're one of the most fun things about Morrowind for me I'll check my save game file sizes, i didn't know about that.

For me, the biggest pain is not leaving the corpses around. It is hard enough to manage my inventory to keep from getting too heavy. Now, every time I kill something, I'm supposed to carry around all the junk it owned until I can find a crate to dispose of it?!

I am doing this and still my saved game sizes are not getting smaller. They are at 266 blocks now.. File sizes were fine until I switched to GOTY..

Yes i'm beginning to wonder about GOTY as well.......sadly i got rid of my origonal Morrowind game so i'm stuck now. Still i'm daggerfalling until the next Elderscrolls(or until they maybe fix GOTY?)

Actualy ref the corpses lying around, i think you can press the white button to get rid of the corpse AND all its equipement?(not 100% on this - i'll have to test it out). So you should be able to avoid carrying all the stuff, but if you can do that you would loose it all forever.
