  • What other games are you playing these days?

I wanted to put this on the Civ-General forum, but thought it might be inappropriate.

I've been playing Civ III since it came out, enjoyed the PtW expansion (other than the price), and think C3C is the epitome of what Civ could be (other than my, ahem own mods).
I eagerly await CivIV (sort of--I also fear it may be a 'dumbed down' version of Civ designed for a bigger audience).

In the mean time I've been playing a lot of other games and I'm curious as to what fellow Civers and fellow Polytubbies are playing. I'm always looking for a new game, desperately trying to recapture that initial Civ experience.

Myself, I've been heavily into Medieval: Total War. I wasn't impressed when I first bought it, but after it had gathered a little dust I dragged it back out and now I'm having a blast with it. The campaign game confused me, but now I've figured that out and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Eagerly await Rome: Total War with the anticipation I felt for C3C.

Command and Conquer: Generals was pretty cool but I've cooled on it. The only real challenge now is playing as the GLA, but I can't overcome a distateful feeling being them. The USA is the best to play, but China has some amazing units. I have issues with the interface, though, that frustrate me.

Rise of Nations, as most RTS games, grew tiresome to me. But with the T&P expansion my interest is renewed.

The Sims, and all its countless expansions, leaves me with one thought: "What would you need for a military alliance against the Sims?"

All the hype about Doom III almost got me interested, but I don't really care for first person shooters. Is this the game that will change my mind? Let me know.

I like some old games: Sid Meier's Civil War Collection, 1503, Caesar III, Pharoah . . .
What are you playing these days? What do you recommend?

I am mostly playing games featured on the Other Games forum, and if you have a look around there then you'll easily find some like-minded souls.

Oh, and FG at the beginning of a thread title stands for forum game.

I've started playing Vice City again. Lots of fun and great to play if you only have a few minutes or a whole day. Either way works.

For the record, this should be in the Other Games forum, not the community forum.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Seems like the question was directed to the entire Community, not just the subset that frequents Other Games.

I like playing Poker when not able to play Civ2.

If you only have a few minutes, going on a rampage with the tank is fun

Right now, I've been playing plenty of Risk.

Aside from PtWDG1 and some light PtW PBEMing of my own, it's a bit of Diablo 2 now and then. But the poor civ soul in me just tends to micromanage all those gems, runes, juicy magical items and such ad nauseam... It's about 10 minutes of a furious clickfest and 10 minutes of desperate chest-shuffling.

Oh, btw, I hate Duriel. I am just no good in killing it with my paladin-sucker... took me about three hours last time... I think I lost 1,000,000+ gold just on resurrecting my archeress over and over... no fun...

i play mostly card games and board games either at home watching TV or polying, or out at park or cafe these days.

some basketball. stickballs, softball maybe if we can get enough people to actually do something.... (my friends suck at planning and following thru)

As for video games, some UT2k4, doom3 although i havent really gotten into MP yet and SP is getting a bit repetitive. Some tekken tag and other random old school games once in awhile...
                        :-p

Are you playing 1.10? Im not familiar with the latest patch, but if you invest some points in Holy shield, with pretty decent shield u shouldnt have a problem with any big nasty melee guys.

or..... you can give the gold to ur friend, open up 2 TP, activate thorn, take his TP to the boss and let him whack you.

Sadly thats how i beat few of the bosses in my earlier pathetic days in D2... but it works...

Splinter Cell PT... and I did play Doom 3 for about 10 hours until I beat it, not much replay value with that one until some good mods come out.
