I didn't say you had to go, I just said they told you to, but also noted that I didn't go

Yep, but makes a crucial difference. If you have to get out of the game to proceed, that sucks, if it's as it is, it's fine.

I so much enjoy the PDA emails and such, gives the atmosphere .

Yep... the only negative thing is that you can't alt+tab into Windows when you get to that part

Doom3 renders with OpenGL, and alt+tab sucks for them. However, you can probably alt+enter, the game will go into a window, and you can do whatever you want then. Mind you, if you have less than 1GB of RAM, I don't recommend that. With Doom3 in the background, your comp won't be the fastest thing out there.

are there alot of flickering lights in the darkness as you move through the levels?

            sometimes that gets to me.

I read earlier that Doom 3 does have 2 endings - one good one bad - depends on something at the start of the game.

My favourite moment so far is stepping outside for that very short moment. I really felt like... holy begeezus.. I'm outside! on Mars!!! I had to look around, get a quick glance! Amazing stuff.

Also, as I was about to quit out, I thought I'd give Ultra High settings a go just for fun. But turns out the game was actually running extremely well, infact better than on Medium. What gives?? Don't tell me this is all just optimization!?

Optimization is great, and GeForce is better, but you're still one lucky man to run it at Ultra. Still doesn't show all of its beauty though!

Stepping outside on Mars was brilliant . As for the two endings... hmm... not sure, maybe that's possible, but I don't think it changes much.

In spoiler tags is what I think it can depend on:

                  Spoiler:

If that's true, then it's in satelite control center when you are to call for reinforcements, and whether you abort trasmission as Swann tells you to or not.

Because while Nvidia cards are 20% faster right now in DOOM3 (though the 4.9 Cats increase performance in DOOM3 5-30% for ATI), HL2 is 30% faster on ATI cards.

ATI focuses on DirectX, Nvidia on OpenGL.

Plus the 5900 is f*cking noisy and powerhungry and has very weak PS 2.0.

                      • I've found on my Gforce FX that to run games in high quality modes, such as The Republic, you have to set the card to use a lot of system memory for textures as well. Perhaps this would allow us 128mb cards to use the Ultra quality setting, but the game will run slower if its using some plain memory (though my memory is double inline so it runs twice as fast - ram buffer i think its called).

My Only worry about doom3 is that you won't be able to have big multiplayer games. If you can have 8 players that would be great.

Time to start writing Doom3 Total conversions.

                        • Possible to make 8 players with a mod, but so far I hear 4-DM plays nice. I still can't understand who cares about MP, as to me deathmatch seems to be absolutely the same, graphics aside, in all games, Quake, Unreal or Doom 3.

Which would be why virtually the only person who actively uses it is Carmack, and even he says DX9 is great. It's just not multiplatform.

I did several times appreciate the creepy setting, and I did of course on more than one occasion get surprised by a monster sneaking up from behind or something.

Doom3, so far, has had me jumping slightly repeatedly, and there were two BIG jumps for me, I actually dropped my mouse on one, scared me a lot. Some of the moments when there are no monsters around are scariest. The scare is absolutely Stephen King-standard .
Im a big horror movie buff, but most of them dont scare me at all. But when it comes to horro games, I love the fact that I control the character and that makes it much more interesting as when the monster sneaks up behind me, I care. Whereas when a ****** in a movie walks into the dark saying hello? I get annoyed and laugh when he gets beheaded.
                              :-p

Levels are great also in that that there's no "Quake 2 running back" syndrome, when you did something at one end of the map, and then spend time going back to the beggining through the entire map. Here, when you need to get back to start of the map, you'll either find a door that brings you straight there, or will take another path to it.
Actually I liked the doom1/2's running back syndrome, because you would think you know exactly how many enemies are still there, or if u killed them all, you'd think you would be safe, but doom ALWAYS opens up a trap full of new enemies when theres running back to be done.... just that you never know when they are coming from.

when i hit the switch to lower the platform to get the card and come back to grab a card, and i see no new enemies being released... i'd get nervous.
