Thanks for the tips, guys.
Now as to the game: I enjoy FPS to a certain extent, but they need a good hook to really grab me. With Doom 3, it looks like that hook is fear.
So, how scary is this game? For a frame of reference, I found System Shock 2 to be extremely creepy and it made me jump and/or yell on more than one occasion."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

Xbox DOOM3 is going to have coop. Going to need to get that.
Rumour has it it will not only be split-screen coop, but Xbox Live coop."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

As for the scariness effect. I typically don't find horror movies scary, I think they're boring more than anything else. I haven't played SS2, but I have played some other games/parts thereof that are supposed to be scary. I did several times appreciate the creepy setting, and I did of course on more than one occasion get surprised by a monster sneaking up from behind or something.
Doom3, so far, has had me jumping slightly repeatedly, and there were two BIG jumps for me, I actually dropped my mouse on one, scared me a lot. Some of the moments when there are no monsters around are scariest. The scare is absolutely Stephen King-standard .Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

I was thinking the same thing.
I'm sure the monsters look great and the eerie darkness is of paramount importance in a Doom game, but for a game that requires such computational heavy lifting, it better be more than tracking down corner shadows..
i mean, after all the hardware hype for the great graphics, it was quite funny to hear people say that it was so dark you could hardly see anything...

I think another thing that adds to thr scariness is the voice acting. Its cheesy in some parts but mostly from what ive gone through so far the talking is quite varied (3/4 variations per person) and can be creepy. Like that scientist bloke who wont tell you whats going on, so i shot him in the head when he turned around. Idiot.Call to Power 2: Apolyton Edition - download the latest version (12th June 2011)

Right now I can only say wow. This is the best action game I've ever played it seems at the moment.
Spoiler:Just go to the recycling level where what's his name told me he'd sent the signal anyway so the fleet would come down and he could send his legions back to earth. Nice plot twist
This game is everything I wanted in an FPS. I'm not really the type of guy who moves really fast through FPS levels. I go rather slowly and this game is good for that since I don't have to take on a whole bunch of guys at a time.Last edited by Apocalypse; August 4, 2004, 11:31."Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear

I dont understand why the PC version couldnt have MP coop and XBOX can. At least they might add it in a future patch hopefully. You need coop when playing at 10-15fps.Call to Power 2: Apolyton Edition - download the latest version (12th June 2011)

Got the game yesterday, and have been playing for an hour or so... but becayse I'm a slow player (and the loading time between levels are long), I haven't got that far yet
The sounds a ok... I don't have any of those sorround (sp?) sound systems, so the quality can't be that high on my computer...
I can play it on 1024*768 with high most of the time... though at the place I stopped playing last night it was very laggy, though except from that small part, it had run fine
I'm not easy to scare, so I've only been a little scared a few times...
But they do have some nice ideas in the game, like at one point they tell you to go to some website to find a code to unlock something... I like this idea... but they've failed with this idea too, since it's impossible to alt+tab into Windows while playing... and because I just had loaded the game as I got there, I never got to unlock it (remember I have long loading times)This space is empty... or is it?

And before I forget:
The game doesn't have any good level design... the level design is standard... why don't they make the levels a bit more dynamic, so you can actually choose between two paths instead of just one???This space is empty... or is it?

ADG, nah, you at no point must go to the website to proceed, just an added bonus. Oh, and wait till 2-3 more hours, you will be scared...
About darkness, I never said it was a bad thing, it's completely brilliant. You do see the monsters quite enough, and admire all the graphical beauty. Darkness is not a complaint with me.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

If they had several possible paths for levels, I'd no doubt get lost. Levels are great also in that that there's no "Quake 2 running back" syndrome, when you did something at one end of the map, and then spend time going back to the beggining through the entire map. Here, when you need to get back to start of the map, you'll either find a door that brings you straight there, or will take another path to it.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator
