      • Hi all,

Please check out the new server. Here is the new IP address: 68.50.84.121

I checked via Gamespy(?) and the server is still listed there, in Socials.

Folderol has a new physical location, a server with twice the speed and twice the RAM. Lag should be a distant memory *grins* and its still free

          • So, I've been playing the City of Arabel server... very fun.

But I'm still having difficulty geting used to the game, it seems.

How do you toggle walk/run, and get your character to face another direction?

Any tips for staying alive at level one? I was slain on my first little adventure... twice. and the second time the paladin had no healing left so off I went to the fugue plane. What irks me though is that each time I died I had a potion on my lips.

But I suppose it serves me right... i shouldn't of been there with them for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that I was level one and both my companions where probably around level 3 or 4.

            • Ok... hold down shift to walk if you're in run, and vice versa.
To turn, use "a" and "d" as defaults, "q" and "e" are sidesteps. Or configure whatever keys you're used to. I guess you're still clicking on the ground to move? Learn the keys, becuase then you have the mouse free to target, cast spells, drink potions, examine things....

Staying alive at level 1? Get a bow, and a level 2+ friend. Summon a monster if you can, and a pet. DO NOT enter melee with anything that can do more than 1 or 2 points of damage. Get to level 2 as soon as you can and relax as you suddenly get twice as tough. Potions of invis are better than potions of healing at low levels. If its hurting you its too tough for you to handle. Swig the invis and go find something easier.

Oh god... and servers which send you to a fugue plane, or to hell, or to any other kind of annoying respawn maze should be BURNT.

                Who said anything about respawn?

My character frankly wasn't worth resurecting, even if my companions (which I had jsut met) actually had the means to get me ressurected so I entered the portal to the after life and stepped into the void.

                  • Well I ordered the game from amazon... it'll take 2 weeks to get here though

My question is should I head straight into MP or do some (all?) of the campaigns first?

Play single player until you're familiar with the game and/or lose interest in the campaign. Then play multiplayer.

I recommend at least doing the tuturials to learn the controls. And mess around with them at least. You don't have to finish them if you don't like it.

The original original campain isn't considered very good. But it has the most detailed tuturial to get you going.

                          • I have a few questions about concealment:

                            How does exactly it work?
Does having 50% concealment mean that the enemies will just miss 50% of the time, regardless of the other circumstances? Is there anything that helps against the concealment?
Can the concealment stop a hit if the enemy rolls 20?

In HotU there is a feat called "Self Concealment" that can be taken five times for max 50%. It has some ridiculously high requirements. Is it worth it?
Against stupidity the very gods themselves contend in vain.

Its very popular, that's for sure... the people vary wildly from server to server though, and from day to day... I never really settled. YMMV though.

It means that x% of successful hits will actually miss. Pretty useful to have. It will be negated/reduced by opponents with high spot skills, and elimininated by True Seeing. It will even stop rolls of 20.

Erm... yes and no... To get the full 50% you're going to have to get 30 ranks in Hide and Tumble AND have a natural Dex of 30, and still have 5 feats left over before you hit level 40. This basically means playing an Elf or Halfling and constructing the whole character with the aim of getting Self Concealment. Yeah its good, but like so many great roguish skills, there's an easy and common counter. At Level 40 most stuff you fight DOES have true sight.
