If you have HotU, be a Paladin and get good CHA. Without HotU Paladins are a bit gimped, but some of the Paly feats turn them into a force of destruction (So.... I can add my CHA bonus to AC and damage, for a number of rounds equal to that bonus... and a number of times per day equal to that bonus too? Ah... Its good that I have 34 Charisma.... *SMITES*) The only trouble is that you suck untill you can boost CHA with items and levels....

I played a wizard in OC, so next time (maybe on Folderol ) I create a magic based character I probably will use a sorcerer.

What are the MC options? Particularly for the prestige classes. Or is a straight sorcerer a common build on MP servers?

I really ought to read the manual (yet again ). I had no idea that you could improve your characteristics by levelling up too. I just thought that you got progressively better magic stuff to use.
Jam, should I try DoA again with a fighter? And will it still work with HotU?

You get to improve one characteristic at certain levels, depending on class. I think there is a table in the manual.

Isn't it like that in BG?

Every four levels you get a new ability point. Every three levels you get a new feat. Some classes get extra feats, or bonus feats.

Spikey, it's not like that in BG. The only way to permanently improve your ability scores is to use magic tomes. They're +1 to the respective score and destroyed on use. You can use items too, but that's not exactly permanent.

I thought I needed more NWN practice before playing online again. Trying out DoA. I've died twice, once before entering the dungeons and once at level 2. Having fun though.

Any combination of 3 classes is allowed Bear in mind that if your levels are more than 1 level apart from each other (i.e. Wizard 7 / Fighter 21) you'll suffer a 20% xp penalty, with the exception of any levels in your favored class (i.e. a Dwarf's favored class is Fighter, so Wiz 7/Fighter 21 would not have a penalty)

Paladin 1 / Sorc (the rest)
Fighter 10 / Weapon Master (the rest)

You won't find a server where there isn't someone playing one of these.

A question about fighter/WM builds... if I don't take any levels of Fighter once I hit epic levels, will I ever be offered Epic Specialization? (Yes, that +4 damage does matter to me. )

I've seen the sorc/pal build on Folderol, but I don't think I've ever seen the bard/barb/RDD build anywhere. (...could a pal/sorc/RDD build work?)

You'll be offered it as long as you have normal Weapon Specialization - so only 4 levels of Fighter are needed And it doesn't stack - so its only another +2 over Specialisation

I saw two today on Folderol... yeah, Paly/sorc/RDD would swing it pretty well too, I guess. Its not a high CHA build though normally - only 11 to get the sorc level to allow RDD and get the +8 STR

I played as a Cleric through the OC. Having a high CHA and WIS and plenty of Persuasion skill allowed me to access all of the Persuasion and Insight dialogue options. Sure, it doesn't make or break the entire game, but it definately enriches the story and provides a few more subplots.

Also, being a Cleric with the "Good" clerical domain and high CHA and WIS allowed me to be pretty good at turning outsiders.

"Oh look! It's a room full of succubi, hell hounds, and vrocks!" *POOF!*

That skill became even more useful when I took the same character into HotU. Turns out you can turn devils in hell.
