Okay, guys, enough with the US bashing -- leave poor old centrifuge alone Us Eurocoms all enjoy doing so but enough is enough. If you want to continue the discussion, at least do so in the proper place: the OT (then Ming can sort y'all out ).

        Big MC:

You know the joke about the canadians and Americans?

I just gonna sum it up a bit:

God is creating this lovely country called nowadays Canada. Jesus is asking: Hey are you not making any mistake there?

God: You don't know their neighbours yet

To be honest I was thinking the same thing, except for on the other side of the pond

(but I think that Canada is secretly developing a massive freeze ray and sharpening their ice skates in preparation for an invasion.

Anyway guys, I'll now try not to make anymore posts on the subject.

...and know that I hold no hard feelings, I would welcome any of you (well most of you ) into my home.

                Damn, the secret is out.

But you don't have to worry about this weekend, because everybody there will be preoccupied with the big hockey match:

There's some concern about the weather (the temperature in Edmonton is currently -29 C).

Bah! It's not like when I was a kid. What's this younger generation coming to. Blah Blah

But seriously, when I was a kid almost all skating rinks were outdoors. They'd put up some boards in the school playground, pump some water in, and - hey presto - you've got an ice rink. Then they'd put up a sort of shack with a wood burning stove in it where you could put your skates on. To be honest, though, I never did learn to skate properly because I was a skinny little runt and kept going into the shack to get warm. It didn't seem to bother my friends so much.

In the same spirit you should not worry about the English this week-end as most of them are preoccupied with the big Rugby game of tomorrow...

I bet that the ice tended to be pretty lumpy...

I mean it's not as though a zamboni would be available under those circumstances

Worth looking into. I was reading some really old posts a few months back from before i was here, about how cannon making wasnt required before infantrymen, which it obviously should be, because the cannon (or whatever it was called) came first.

                        • "lumpy", eh. Haven't heard that one in awhile.

It was lumpy, but there was some way of manually scraping it to make it more smooth. I don't remember to details, this was a long time ago. But I do remember that, in one school I was at, the guys on the hocky team used to do it and hate it when a bunch of girls with figure skates would turn up. Those sort of teeth on the front of their skates could really chop up the ice.

re rugby: It was on the radio this morning that both the Prime Minister and the Queen will be watching it on TV. Blair sent an encouraging telegram to the England team but the Queen had to be impartial and send telegrams to both England and the Aussies.

It is my duty to support the last defender of the Northern Hemisphere against the heretics of the Southern Hemisphere and their strange Rugby without forwards. And between neighbours, we need to support each others.

Sorry, missed this. I actually posted it twice, the original is still available in the Apolyton/Community Archive. At the time I posted it in part to highlight the glaring lack of a Civ General forum, but then reposted it in the right place when Markos created one.

The HTML is a bit screwed up in that post, so I made a neater version and put it offsite in case of archive archiving. It's here. On the plus side, the thread has a few responses.
