o, ok. this is the first game i've won so i wouldn't know how to declare a winner. sure i'll play you again. whats wrong with forests? they're really good in the beginning i think. if you get a river with it you can turn out some cities pretty quick. what kinda of land do you want?

I've just begun a challenge match with Horned Frog. I think that's challenge # 183.

tutorial

well platypus. you weren't growing fast enough. i may have found a couple cities early but i would have at least had 4 or 5 by the same time we finished the game. kinda hafta think mathematically.
building cities go something like this
1-2-4-8-16-32-40
they double. so you should be able to get 40 cities (theocracy limit) in 90 turns. also, on your first turn, if religion is an option to research then do it.

File associations

Not quite the right place, but still...

I've just reinstalled CtP on my new (Vista) machine, and can't get the file association working for PBEM game files - ie, can't just double clik the turn file and the game loads, then loads the turn, without further input.

I've had this problem before, but forgot how to fix it... I've tried "open with..." the 2 .exe files I can find in the CtP directories.

Any suggestions?

If I remember correctly, I had to start and save a game with the original install, then again with each update, to ensure the Windows Registry properly associated the .csg file with CTP. As well, the setting in the registry under

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\csgfile\Shell\Open\command

needs to read thusly:

C:\"your directory"\ctp_program\ctp\civctp.exe -l"%1"

with, of course, the proper directorie(s) in place of "your directory". This allows the game to start without going through the start-up screen. However, it doesn't always work (for reasons I do not understand) and it took me a few tries to get it right.

I think you need to re-associate the file extension on your machine. Try this link for instructions on how to do that:

I've already tried the reassociation many times, to no avail, and many installs with step by step saves.

I think the HKEY solution is the right one, but so far I haven't gotten it to work. Perhaps there is more to it...
