Personal Log of Provost J. Marsh:

An expedition was sent a couple of months ago to the crash site of the pod we came to planet in; we were merely trying to see if we had missed anything useful, just in case. Indeed, we did, and a data disc was found buried under the sand; we linked it with our databanks, and were amazed to discover the basic tenets of "state-of-the-art" biogenetics, as they were when we left earth!

This new knowledge has enabled us to begin construction on our first base facility other than housing or research... the Recycling Tanks. Quite a morbid place, but necessary to our survival, if we are to have clean food and water.

Two auxillary colony pods have been dispatched to create two more bases, as to avoid putting all of our eggs into one basket. If we are able to construct them well, and if the data we are analyzing following the violent-wake up we all experienced on the Unity bears any fruit, it should be smooth sailing for the next few years or so.

Public Journals of Santiago:
Not wanting to wait around to build our military headquarters, a base was established as soon as we made planetfall. Apparently, the green-loving hippies of Lady Deidre had opted to do the same, based on communications made between the factions during the descent of our escape pods. Nevertheless, a monument was erected on the spot, whether or not it remains the capital of the Spartan forces, it shall always have that historical distinction of being the first of many Spartan conquests for survival in the Alpha Centauri system.
Remind me to smack the orbital cartographers upside the head for naming the medium sized body of water near our landing site "Landing Lake." It shall hereafter be known as Lake Sparta instead. And there was much rejoicing!
Our forces are spread thin from using the rivers as a natural roadway, but reports have come in of a working unity rover having been recovered from the wreckage and it will certainly speed up our exploration of the surrounding environs.
A second city will be birthed in what the colonists are calling "the Haunted Ruins." I do not wish to see this colony wind up like the Lost Colony of Roanoke from the late 1500's America. Reinforcements shall be sent that way to protect and serve. For the glory of Sparta!

Provost's Personal Log:

Our second base founded today! Zoloto-gold provides more living space, sparing us the tight quarters of University Base. There was to be a third base, but the original site chosen was too unstable to build upon; it has been diverted to a sector next to the original site.

The Recycling Tanks project was sped up, with some 'encouragement' in energy form to the engineers responsible. If we are to efficiently conduct business in this hostile environment, we must reclaim all that we can, even humans.

Public Journals of Colonel Arcainite:
Have been "given" command of all the armies of Santiago. I saw what happens to colonels who fail her majesty though and I intend not to wind up like my predecessor.
A monolith unearthed? Near a ring of monoliths? Talk about being given a lemon....However, the other two pods uncovered weren't bad, but nothing that helps us technologically.
Second base established in the Haunted Zone. Having second thoughts about where to set down the third base. Probably not worth delaying construction over, especially not if I want to keep in Santiago's good graces.

Mir Lab has finished construction, and we have commissioned yet another scout patrol to help defend Zoloto-Gold, and are recruiting another for Mir Lab.

We have made some major breakthroughs in what researchers are calling Social Psych, and expect to complete research within the year!

We went ahead with construction of our third base in the originally planned location simply because it would save time and allow us to focus on other concerns. That it is not ideally situated is just a cold hard fact of life they will adjust to.
Everything else is going rather slowly except that the first command center has been built to churn out our glorious armies. For Sparta!

Brother Lal raised his head after reading once again a report like 2 years old now. That was a possible sighting of alien life, not intelligent most likely, but something more that microbes they found in soil. However, before his scouts could investigate these worm-like creatures they vanished. Another time perhaps...
