Well it is a larger map and desuigned as a builder's game . .. My guess is that Darsan made it harder to meet to make early attacks harder

I was thinking about this more and realized that the nature of these long windy narrow strips of land is that there is a tendency to explore the wider less fungusy bits first. So even if people are reasonably close it may take longer to meet.

Heck my early attempts down some of those fungusy routes got killed by mindworms

.... and well placed fungals towers can keep people apart a long time

True. Mindworms happened to me as well. Have you found any fungal towers?

I don't remember for this game-- maybe-- They are common enough that I wouldn't really notice. I'll check on my next turn

I just remember scenarios where people used them as a barrier method when designing map. It is possible to get past them but I find that towers generally beat any single unit so I know I tend to leave them alone in the early going

Seems pretty common. Well when you consider a few bounce-backs can mean it takes 5-6 turns to traverse a 3 tile stretch of fungus, it would be no surprise the worms show up . . . and in fungus they are likley to get the first shot as well

It's eight turns before both of them grow, and will take another eight to complete the pods. The best of it all is that they are my second and third base (I managed to "start" with three colony pods). Talk about bad decision making and idiotic base placement...
Hooray! A Unity Pod rushed contruction of a Colony Pod in one of those bases! Got to be the best materials pod I got in some time (after hundreds of scout patrols).

                      • I usually set the nearest bases to recycling tanks or some building before opening pods. if i have the tech and the base is not well over 10 minerals

                        EDIT: 2142 to drow21 now
Flubber built the planetary transit system.

I wonder, does the hacker "civ2 great library"-feat work only with regular infiltration or also with governor infiltration?

A littler tip here. Switch it anyway even if you are well over 10 minerals . My recollection is that the base remembers what it was building and if you switch back again on the same turn, the "lost" minerals reappear. Test it out if you want.

I meant to announce it myself but I got busy. Its a decent way to have a second happy citizen. Now if only half my bases weren't starving

You know, I don't remember but I do seem to recall that tehre was a detailed thread on that very point on apolyton. I'm curious too now that you bring it up so I'll probably take a look for it

                              OUCH

I sometimes switch to buildings but often I will go for the most expensive crawler I can build or a prototype of the newest unit. Always Always always switch the production of the nearest base to something expensive BEFORE you pop the pod. So far my recollection is popping a couple of good buildings and a crawler. That will have to do for a while since it will take a while for my new explorers to get as far out as where my now-dead onces went

One-- ansd if there is one there are likely a few .

I must say that I am surprised that I have yet to meet anyone yet. Perhaps he made it so that none of us are connected by land.
