What about making the Civ4 demo games sub forums of Civ4 multiplayer. After all, that's what a demo game are.

Game forum categorization is based on whether or not it's covered officially on Apolyton (and in some respects to what extent), but also traffic. The CivRev forum is not sufficiently trafficked to have a forum category of its own.

However, what if you... moved Civ2 and perhaps Civ3 too, to the classic section? Civ2 is truly a classic, and Civ3 might be less so, but both are old games now and have not that active forums.
In part we have hesitated to remove these two games' independent forum categories as, unlike CivRev, at one point in time they were each bustling with activity with multiple forums within the category.

Now that we're in 2009, looking back at 2008... While "Civ2-General" did not see much activity, "Civ2 Scenario League" did (had to go to its page 5 to find a thread with a last post in 2007). As such, I see no reason to modify its status. However, "Civ3-General" has no such companion forum and had low enough activity that no threads last posted in '08 appear on a second page. Therefore, I have taken you up on your suggestion there -- done.

It is CivIV multiplayer, yes, but a notably more involved, collective and long-term process.

All I can ask Dan, is to be listened to. You're the one in charge. And you are very good at taking critique and suggestions to heart, acting on them when neccessary and giving good reasons when not.

But then perhaps a unified forum, "Civ4 demo games", could be a good solution? Make the parent forum closed for posting(perhaps except one thread open for planning of new demo games, but not allowing new threads) and the various demo game forums going in there as sub forums. That way it get shown as something different from a regular mp game, but still doesn't clutter the main forum listing.

When we played Civ2 democracy and succession games (this was the start of the demogame era), we were forced to post within one of the larger Civ2 forums. ACS management considered us to be spammers, with all our polls from various ministers, gameplay critiques etc. But we persevered, and demogames became an established and legit gameplay method. (Sadly, succession games, which I found incredibly instructive in learning a wide variety of Civ2 strategies and gameplay techniques, seems to have faded away.)

My point is, there's no reason such games can't live within a larger forum, like Civ4 General. If each is active and contained within a well-named thread, they stay visible.

Why? There was less traffic there than Candle'Bre.

Yes, a real shame. Doesn't help losing two stalwarts.

I'm guessing that Civ2 is still pretty quiet as well.

So yes, the CivII forum is quieter than a few years ago, but it is in no way dead yet, thank you!

I wasn't suggesting that, Cyrion. I'm sure it's more active than Civ3. But I do think games that are long gone from active sales should be bunched together in a space that's easy for their users to find but won't intrude on the more vital current gaming forums.
