  • Should These Forums Still Exist?

I'm sure they all have denizens who will bristle at this suggestion, but it seems to me that we have a LOT of seldom-used forums and sub-forums. I understand this is more an administrative than design issue -- thus a new thread.

Here's a list of fora with their most recent posts:

Civilization Series General - December 19
    Civilization: Revolution - December 15
Civ4 Stories (sub) - December 15 (in the thread about Civ3!)
Civ4 Vanilla Democracy Game - December 16 (thread about "game is dead")
Civ III General - July 29
    Civ3 Creation (sub) - December 5
Clash of Civilizations - September 17
    Galactic Civilizations - December 15
Masters of Orion - December 11
Rise of Nations - December 11

I'm guessing that Civ2 is still pretty quiet as well.

I'm not saying these forums should all die, but they sure don't seem to have much traffic. Maybe it makes sense to ghettoize some of them into some sort of "Special Interest Games" or "Classic Games" category.

We really have very few forums compared to what we had a year ago

I think that CivRev, MoO and RoN are keeping their forums because those are games that we officially cover, hence separate forums. Clash is a hosted site, so gets its own forum. Although I believe that Mark Everson hasn't been actively working on the game for a while. Civ3 Creation I certainly agree with, minimum activity through the last year, probably warrants a merge into its parent.

Special Interest Games sounds... special, though

        Maybe "Games once played"?

Seriously though, you do have a point. It may again be time to close a couple of forums.

A number of -Jrabbit's recommendations have merit, enough so that the following changes have been made to Apolyton's forum line-up in turn:

          1. 'Civ3-Creation' sub-forum of 'Civ3 General' has been merged into its parent.
          2. The "Miscellaneous Games" forum category has been renamed "Classic Games". (Related aside: "Classic Games" is a term that has been used on the Apolyton homepage for the games within this category for some time now.)
          3. In turn from point #2, 'Other Games' has been moved under the "Miscellaneous" category with "Off-Topic".

As Solver as already noted the CivRev, MoO and RoN forums are remaining as they are games that are officially covered here on Apolyton (and I'll add GalCiv to that list). Clash is a hosted site though active work on the game hasn't been ongoing for some time as Solver also noted; action on its status may be taken at a later date. The same fate goes for 'Civ4 Stories'. As for 'Civ4 Vanilla Democracy Game', we will attempt to confirm its status and follow-up in future as well.

On a related note to points #2 and #3, the 'Spore' forum threads have been moved into the "Other Games" forum due to low traffic.

Fast and fairly decisive action. Thanks.

              Welcome.

Further on the C4VDG front, I have made a related inquiry on this subject in that forum.

I'd say Civ:Rev is an alternate civ of some kind. It shouldn't be among A/C at least.

I still play Civ:Rev, although I don't talk about it much.

"Alternate Civs" on Apolyton has always and continues to mean fan developed/in-development Civ titles. CivRev does not fall under that banner. Moreover, it is an official Civ title from developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K Games (Take-Two Interactive).

Oh, and "A/C" is outdated terminology.

Alpha Centauri shall never be outdated (unless SMAC 2 comes around), Air Conditioning is always useful, and that 'AC' is just crying out for additional 'S'... or is Poly outdated too

Still my point stands. Civ:Rev does not belong where it is right now.

Ah -- -Jrabbit did not use the acronym to get his meaning across clearly then.

'AC' is Alpha Centauri (though personally I've always been partial to 'SMAC'). 'A/C' is "Apolyton/Community" (what "Site Feedback & News" was called for many years for those not in the know). Saying "AC" fits the context of the discussion seeing as how that-forum-of-a-newer-name is grouped under "General" as are a number of the other forums mentioned in the opening post.

Actually, Civ:Rev should have it's own section, just as Civ2 and Civ3, to be consistent. But that would probably be unneccessary clutter. However, what if you did that and moved Civ2 and perhaps Civ3 too, to the classic section? Civ2 is truly a classic, and Civ3 might be less so, but both are old games now and have not that active forums.
