I see it as appalling lemming-like behaviour. As I said in one of teh first posts in teh thread, there are far more important issues to address first than teh addition of silly commercialised hats to our smileys

Being a follower of Happy Putin is also lemming behaviour

Those whom I respect the most will feel it's as retarded as I feel it is.

There aren't many who'll give it more than a second's thought and thus think about lemming behaviour.
I know plenty of people who do. In fact, lemmings generally tend to flock together, as do people who think for themselves.

I don't like lemming behaviour any more than you do, but you have to recognize that, in this case, it wouldn't even be notable to most people.
Uhm, these hats only appear in pretty much every single post. It's pretty hard not to take notice.

And if you want to fight against lemming behaviour in general, do it on a bigger scale, like tell the shops not to start their "Christmas sales" on the last week of November
I can't stop people from doing what they want, we live in a free society. But that doesn't mean I'll accept it in my own front yard...

Fine. You're better than most people. You're very special. Now, could you please begone with your attitude?

More like me being fed up of his silly "I'm better than you" attitude in this thread so far. If that is a personal attack, so is some of his posts in this thread.

By the way, I think Locutus means sheep, not lemmings. They both follow the crowd, but the lemming context is a very specific example around committing suicide. I don't even the passionate advocates of christmas smileys/no christmas smileys here would take it that far.

It's a small step to turn sheep into lemmings, so over here we use the term pretty interchangeably (though it's even more common to refer to the Pied Piper of Hamelin, but I'm not sure that's a particularly well-known myth beyond the German lingosphere).

It's a shame that this thread has degenerated the way it has. Though I feel compelled to respond further to... statements made here, I don't see what possible constructive point it would serve. I believe there are far more important things in life to spend our energies on both in regards to this site and otherwise.

If I were falling for it, then I'd be starting to celebrate Christmas in October

And what's up with mentioning commercial hype all the time? Had I been living in the middle of nowhere, then Christmas season would still start on Dec. 1st... it's tradition... it was tradition before it was commercialized
This space is empty... or is it?

That is a far worse sin than the early inclusion of Christmas smileys.
