While I hear what you are saying... if people are discouraged because an "exact" nick name is not available... we don't need them

But seriously... when that happens to me, I usually register with a slight variation, check the lay of the land, and then contact the admin. I EXPECT the name I want not to be available....

Indeed. When I changed to Doc temporarily Ming had to delete the impostor Doc, who had 0 posts, and hadn't posted for several years.

Kinda glad he didn't bring that up when I changed back, actually.

I reckon there are some pretty prolific off-topic posters who have close to zero post counts...

Could you imagine the size of my post count if it wasn't for this off-topic rule stuff?

I wanted Obiwan, but I'm happier with Ben Kenobi. It's a much better nickname.

I'd bet you'd have been PCR'ed for posting inane drivel, so roughly the same actually.

I'm happy that my username is actually unique across the intrawebs.

Anybody who posts exclusively in OTF has a 0 post count, if they registered after Markos made it that way.

Except for poor Post Count Zero, who accidently made a single post in the community forum.

Funnily enough, my name is unique too.
