  • PLUS per post option

i was wondering : is there an interest for post-based option for Plus?

    e.g. you pay X $ for 500 or 1000 posts(OT counted ), no matter the time period

obviously this would interest two kinds of people:
    - lurkers
    - people who dont post frequently or come and go

coming up with a price will be tricky....

    thoughts ?

(it's also obvious that geting feedback from the above types of users will be even trickier )

Is this supposed to be a measure to discourage spam?

Why would the above groups be interested in plus, if they never bother posting here?

[edit] I admit that when I first saw this, I thought that you were offering to boost people's post count if they paid you. Now there you might have a better money-spinner.

there are lots of people who visit the site without posting or who visit the site frequently but post rarely

not everyone has a 2.67 posts/day ratio like you, there are many with a 0.5 ratio. these could benefit from such an option as they wouldnt have the anxiety that they "loose money" cause they dont visit the site every day

        *Asmodean wonders if said people:

        a) ever read the community forum - and -
        b) would post to show their interest in abovementioned option, if they did read it *

Thanks for my PPD level, I never bother looking my own up.

The vast majority of the people with the small PPD values post mostly on OT, and it is only that these posts don't count that they seem to have such a low value. You suggested that OT posts would count anyway, which obviously would prevent Pekka and others who rarely post outside the OT getting PLUS for years on the cheap, but would also mean that OT-only posters wouldn't be getting a better deal than just joining anyway. For example, DanielXY has been here for years, but is still a settler because he's only interested in debating the topics of the day in OT. He has a tiny postcount (15), and a PPD of 0.02, but is a valuable member of the OT community and visits regularly. He'd use up the post limit quite soon and then be getting a bad deal.
I agree that you'll have a job getting any response from true on-topic lurkers about this, and seriously doubt whether you'll get any takers. Good luck though! PLUS has great benefits and a wider take-up would be better for both the site and the users.

well here are some interesting statistics: in 2004
            - 14520 valid unique users (fully registered with a real email) visited the site
            - 9501 of them have never made a post
            - of the remaining 5019 that have posted (ever)
            - 3106 have posted during 2004 (and 65 of them have never posted outside the OT! )
            - 1913 visited but didnt not post at all

Yes, some have more like 4

I don't think there'd be much point, actually. I doubt lurkers are gonna pay money.

This might be worth investigating, but then the target audience will mostly not be aware of this feature.

PPD is only impressive once it reaches double-digits.

Who comes in here, anyway, except for OTFer's looking for spam and a certain special type of n00b?

I could see if being good later on. I might have to go off and do some military stuff in 3 years or so and it'd be useful at that time probably. Until then, I don't know though.

I don't think this idea is worth pursuing.

That still wouldn't get rid of all the DLs.

Some of them would have a few posts ontopic.
