Ok here's the bowl schedule so far:



Guess they need to decide on a couple 5-7 teams to invite to fill the remaining open slots.

I think it will be Alabama-Ohio State in the final. I just don't see Washington beating Alabama, given how their sole loss was against USC, whom Alabama crushed early on.

Not getting much of a "Instant Classic" vibe from most of the matchups, except maybe USC-Penn State in the Rose Bowl. Maybe the Auburn/Oklahoma match up, but have to think the Sooners will have the edge there. The best Big 12 team against the 4th best SEC team? Sure.

EDIT: No Stanford on the list. I'm guessing they were invited to the Sun Bowl against UNC?

EDIT 2: nm, must be incomplete list. Also missing Utah and Washington State.

Yeah apparently most of the Pac team ADs hadn't woken up yet to be able to accept their bowl berths.

So 2 out of 3 playoffs w/ no Big 12 team. Maybe the MAC should be elevated to a Power 5 conference in its place?

As I said, what the heck do I know. But I doubt it will help, the luster of that conference has worn out. But some said that about the big10 not that long ago.

It's probably the toughest non-SEC conference, and tougher than the SEC East. PAC is crap this year. Big 10 isn't that great either. You won't see Ohio vs Penn State twice in a season. But, after the new 'championship' you'll see the top dogs in the Big 12 play twice.

The real solution is expansion with the benefits that conferences bring. That way you basically halve the strength of the conference.

I would have respect for the Big 10 if you had Ohio state have to run through Michigan State, Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan every year.

Two-loss Oklahoma had to play Baylor, TCU, 2-loss West Virginia, Texas AND Okie Lite. All save Texas were ranked teams last year.

When was the last PAC12 national champion? USC in 2004? That was 12 years ago. Texas was a winner more recently than anyone in the PAC12.

USC has 7 to Oklahoma's 7.

Aside from USC no Pac12 team has won ****. Even TCU has more national championships than all of the Pac12 save USC combined.

I kind of think Strong got screwed at Texas.
He put together a really young team and got a good foundation in place.

Once Texas is back to top form, people will care about the Big 12 again. It was always the "Texas, Oklahoma and those other teams conference" before. With Texas flagging, OU wasn't enough to keep people thinking about it. So they'll be back.

Texas right now hasn't been a power in over a decade. Nobody fears Texas anymore. They fear Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma and even Okie Lite and West Virginia more than they fear Texas. That's an issue. I don't blame Texas for wanting results and Strong was not the right hire. If they want to revive the program they need to run with the best hire available, probably the Houston's coach, and throw a bag of money at him.

Taggart... eh, not bad I guess. Seems a solid choice. Has the West Coast recruiting ability I think, given his days at Stanford.

But not a home-run hire, IMO. We'll see.
