Proposed change to BAPAY rules for 2015.

For next year, I propose that BAPAYs be determined by Stats:Season(Proj) sorted by Fan Pts instead of the mumbo jumbo which we currently use. This allows for drafting of well-regarded rookies as well as filtering out fluke seasons and what may have been the last good season of declining players.

It's really a question of whether the league wants to punish or help the teams who can't be bothered to draft or leave a list.

The suggested (Jaguar) method will definitely yield better picks. But do those lazy miscreants who are holding up the draft deserve them?

If I were to get hit by a bus, I'd want good picks, yes. If I had known I'd get hit by a bus, I'd have left a list for sure. Or not let the bus hit me in the first place. Point being, we don't know why they haven't picked. If they are merely horrible people that don't check Poly every waking moment, they should get one of the Gramatica brothers (in order from youngest to oldest). But we can't know for certain so we have to assume they are reasonably decent people.

Unless someone goes through all of the posts to determine average pick time of all participants. < 1 hour gets top BAPAY, between 1 and 2 hours gets second best BAPAY, etc.

I'm not saying it's right or fair; it's just how the current system evolved. The nominally punitive element was somewhat deliberate. And I know it's not all bad, since I've seen an all-BAPAY team make the playoffs (not at Poly) using this method.

I agree that a new BAPAY system is worth considering.

Oh hell no. Projected blows donkey chunks. And BAPAYing a rookie? I'd have to explicitly say, "don't bapay me a rookie, bapay me by actual performance. All 'projected' measures is the wishful thinking of analysers. It's as useful as masturbation to conception.
