  • Northwestern has tied it 40-40 with Notre Dame at the end of the 4th quarter. FSU's SoS continues to take hits.

EDIT: The Irish missed their OT field goal attempt. Northwestern just needs a FG to win. Wow.

EDIT 2: Northwestern wins. The hits to FSU's SoS keep on coming. No way they are ranked #1 after this week, no matter what they do against Miami.

    • HAHAHAH, with Northwestern winning Mike Golic lost an embarrassing bet and will have to get oiled up.

        So far.

        • Umm, LSU is down and Auburn is done. Wow. That's gonna trash the SEC. Arky beating LSU 17-0?

Indeed. FSU came all the way back and beats UM. They are just toying with college football fans now.

                  • Nebraska has now given up the individual record for rushing yards in a game (408, Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin), and receiving yards (405, Troy Edwards, LA Tech). Great day in Husker history!

                        • Interesting day in CFB, including 3 top-10 upsets.

                          1. Alabama (dominating the #1 team gives them a big jump)
                          2. Oregon
                          3. FSU
                          4. Baylor
                          5. TCU
                          6. Mississippi State
                          7. Ohio State
                          8. Ole Miss
                          9. Kansas State
                          10. UCLA

Next 5: Some ordering of Michigan State, Arizona, Arizona State, Georgia and Wisconsin

I maintain that Ohio State had the best weekend overall in terms of not only beating a ranked team but also having what happened elsewhere elevate their playoff hopes. They could soon be on the edge of the top 4 and have a good shot at sliding in if they win out and other top 4 teams slip up. They still have a harder path than Michigan State would have had if the Spartans had won their match up, but the B1G hopes aren't quite as dead as I previously thought.

Given Auburn's slide, I think it's probable Alabama wins out and is the SEC champ, which might just elevate them to #1 with the CFP committee by season end. FSU didn't do anything to change the perception the committee seems to have that they struggle and have unimpressive victories over middling teams. But, realistically speaking, Miami was probably the last possibility of a loss for the Seminoles, so they are on track for another undefeated regular season. Baylor and TCU swap places, for now, even though the Bears didn't play this week. That's because the Horned Frogs looked terrible against a putrid Kansas team. Given the apparent resurgence of Texas, that's a huge potential trap game for TCU.

                          Pac 12:

Oregon (9-1): had a bye, but stands alone at the top of the conference once again. The potential exciting match up with Arizona State in the championship game is likely not going to happen now. Oh, and Mariota has won the Heisman.

UCLA (8-2): The Bruins do the "We had a bye and still won" dance. They're the current favorite for the southern division.

Arizona (8-2): Narrow escape against Washington at the Zoo is concerning. RichRod quoted "Are you not entertained?" from Gladiator after the game. Yeah, well, your fans won't be if you play like that again, as you'll end up losing another game.
Arizona State (8-2): Ohhh Sparky. Bwahahaha. "The Clemson of the West."

USC (7-3): 7-Win Sark has the Trojans in a good place. If they beat UCLA, suddenly their conference champ hopes are alive.
Utah (7-3): Defense-apalooza against Stanford. The score was tied 7-7 when it went to overtime. Nicely enough, the goat wide receiver who dropped the ball before the goal line last week against Oregon scored their key TD in OT to keep them going. A field goal sealed it for them.

Stanford (5-5): It's pretty astonishing to think that Stanford is still looking to make bowl eligibility. And truth be told, they are a better team than their record indicates. Of their 5 losses, 3 of them were by 3 points. The problem is that their offense stinks, and their stellar defense can only do so much to keep them in games.
Washington (6-5): Can we start using "Dawg'd It?" The Huskies had a 2-point lead with 1:30 left, a fresh set of downs and Arizona had only 1 time out. So they should take a knee and run out the clock, right? Wrong. They chose to run the ball, the RB fumbled and Arizona recovered and made the game-winning field goal. This might just beat out Utah and Wazzu for the worst play of the season, and this one is all on the coaches. My admonishment last week to the fans may have been premature...
California (5-5): If only the Golden Bears had played in the first half like they did in the second in their game against the Trojans. But they didn't, so they lost and are going to be hard-pressed to make a bowl game. Still, given that they were 1-11 last year w/o a conference win...

Oregon State (5-5): Consider this: The Beavers have the best record in FBS in terms of beating ranked opponents when they themselves are unranked. They're 5-5 in such scenarios. Reser Stadium is where top 10 teams go to have their hopes crushed by a bad team. I've no idea why this keeps happening, but their bowl hopes have been resuscitated.
Washington State (3-7): The Cougs have Coug'd it a couple of times this season, most notably against Rutgers and Cal. They avoided doing so this week by virtue of having a bye. Still, they have to be feeling good about their chances against ASU next week, given what the Beavers just did.

Colorado (2-8): I'm sticking to my story: The Buffs are much improved and their play is better than their record. They aren't rolling over for anybody. But they're not winning.

                            • Some reports are that he will finish the regular season, at least.

God, it would be so perfect if he finished with a win over FSU.

TCU is very close to clinching a ranking. Pretty good for the team that supposedly wasn't able to compete in the Big12 with a Big12 schedule every week.
