I can understand the idea that everyone deserves a shot at the hot FA of the week (like when an injury happens and a random backup has a good game to become suddenly relevant). Personally, I agree and still prefer the wild west of open free agency. If I'm the first guy to ID a FA that can help my team, I should be able to grab him. If someone beats me to it, I'm fine with that. In one, you're fighting the system; in the other, you're racing Berz and whoever else is paying attention (sometimes me). That said, once waivers are cleared (Wednesday morning?), anyone not claimed is a FA, so there's still the opportunity to snag a key LB or whatever.

Auction and DST use waivers, IDP does not. None of the FFZ leagues use waivers either.

Doesn't matter. You lost by 70.

        • Weird. It was definitely 172-102 last night. Must not have been counting Frank Gore's 13.5 or something.

Okay. You lost by 56.32 then. No defense would have saved you this week. Even the highest scoring D wouldn't have helped you.

          Yahoo:

I'm Thinking RBs won by the largest margin of victory in the league (56.32 points) for the second time this season.

Eugh, I had 4 running backs on my auction team. FJax is out, MJD is out, Gore on bye and Redman is out. That's 4/4. Put in Waivers on Sunday when MJD went done, rejected. Same for Redman's replacement last week. Also rejected. Anyways I put up a **** ton of waivers now hopefully one of them ****ing clears.

Waiver in auction = dumb. Basing waiver on auction draft order, abso-****inglutely dumb.

              • I don't know about Auction, but I'd have to agree that the Waiver Priority List should evolve over the season.

                • Slowwy, in Auction, drafting first is meaningless. There's no tangible benefit to it.

Luck has not been with Electric Slide Jedi, as four of their five losses have come when their opponent scores higher than their season average.
Even without MJD I kicked ass this week. Grrr.

                  • I was once in a league on CBS where waiver priority was determined by the pick em score for that week. Made for an interesting activity booster.

What, they would rank their team and the team with the lowest rating would get waiver priority?

No. Like the pick 'em in Yahoo for IDP. Guess which fantasy teams win their matchup and the most correct gets first waiver.

I absolutely require waivers - I don't think I'd play fantasy any more without waivers. I don't have the time to sit around and watch football and grab whomever right away.

That said, my money league resets waiver priority each week to the worst-first rankings, and I would be okay with that. Also would greatly prefer FAAB system, but I know that might deter some people.

Finally, I don't see what auction vs. draft has to do with it. After the first couple of waiver claims, the order is basically unrelated to draft/auction order anyway. If what you say is true, then in Auction the waiver order is effectively randomized (if it's not relevant which order you nominate in, which I very slightly disagree with) and effectively random seems fine as a starting point...

So if I'm watching the game, see the injury go to pick up the backup and get denied because I have lower priority, and someone like you says, oh, it's Tuesday, maybe I should pick up so and so after MJD went down. Not fair, and not right. With no waivers - I can pick up whomever is dropped, etc. With waivers, I have to commit a player on my squad to pick up someone else, and I can't do anything with that player until the waiver clears. So I lose twice - the opportunity cost of not getting the player I wanted and two - the opportunity cost of having to tie up my resources. The correct response to this annoying setup is to file as many waivers as you possible can, which lowers the whole value of waivers.

Fairer with no waivers whatsoever. You snooze you lose.

If it's random, there's no point to having waiver priority whatsoever.

Edit, I'm going to point out something by Mark Rosewater that touches off on this - this is Baaaad game randomness.

1, the player has zero control over the outcome. I can't increase my odds of getting the player. It's a coin flip.
2, the only coin flip result can be negative.

Wizards of the Coast is a family of studios specializing in building role playing, trading card, and digital games for all genres of players.

"Randomness can keep you from accomplishing what you want forcing you to try again and again."

"Being unable to accomplish something due to factors outside your control makes you feel powerless."

The solution is probably a bid system, where players can save their money to get a player which makes PERFECT sense in an auction draft. I recommend going with this system next year over the dumb waiver system. If a player really wants/needs a player - he makes a bid for him.

                              • It's better than no waiver. Some of us have to work weekends and don't get the opportunity to sit back and watch over 9 hours of games on Sunday. Why should I get punished because I have to work to protect your asses? (ok, not your asses specifically, but you get the picture)
