  • I personally feel that it's pretty classless to take delight in anyone's injury.
I personally think it's pretty classless to kill dogs for fun, but then that's just me. Anything that keeps him off the field is good by me.

No. Imran is hard for Vick. I have always thought Vick was a terrible passer until Andy Reid turned him into a QB. I used to think that Vick was the most overrated and worst 'top' QB in the league until this season.

        • So since Ben wanted to act like my description of Kevin Kolb as Captain Checkdown wasn't accurate, I've been seeing some common things said among analysts this week...

          This is from Sports Illustrated:
I'm assuming Mike Vick won't play this week. If that's the case and the 49ers get to face "Mr. Checkdown" Kevin Kolb, they will have a big game. The Philly running backs will catch about 30 passes with Kolb under center but the receivers will probably combine for two. Kolb is scared to death to throw the ball over five yards right now. That doesn't make it very hard for a defense to gameplan against. Expect the 49ers defense to have a strong outing as long as Kolb plays.
          From ESPN:
he was King of the Checkdown when he came in for Vick.
Oh excuse me... Kolb isn't Captain Checkdown... I guess Trent Edwards copywrited that one or something. He's either Mr. Checkdown or King of the Checkdown.

          • Oh and FYI, Lesean McCoy probably won't be playing on Sunday night and with Leonard Weaver out for the season, the Eagles are VERY thin at RB and will have to rely entirely on Mike Bell and Fullback Owen Schmitt. Kolb won't even have any real targets to checkdown to.

Expect the Niners to get their first win unless Alex Smith throws the game away.

Or maybe Kolb will actually get his act right and realize he has these two pretty good receivers named Maclin and Jackson.

And by the way, I am so certain that Kolb will force at least 1 pass to Brent Celek on a throw he has no business throwing and get it picked off. Watch.

Oh, the Flutie who couldn't make an NFL roster and thus had to play in Canada was better than Elway, Kelly, et al. Well, that makes perfect sense.

He played for the perennial experts in QB talent evaluation, the Bears.

He would have been the best they ever had. I stand by what I said, he was an amazing QB up north, and he was a cut above everyone else. He should have been playing in the NFL.

                    • Did you know Doug Flutie had a foot-race against a Triple Crown winner, gave the horse a 5 second head-start, and won?

Did you know Flutie Flakes are no longer sold because they're considered more potent than steroids?

Did you know that Doug Flutie went to China and learned the 72 Shaolin Arts? The result of his mastery: his famous drop-kick.

Did you know that in a CFL game against Toronto, Doug Flutie threw three touchdown passes... to himself?

                      • I can't believe this exists! It's a list of Chuck Norris-like facts about Doug Flutie!

Here's some good ones. Starting off with the religious ones for Ben

Doug Flutie once turned water into Gatorade.

Once was part of a promotion where the first 10,000 fans received a plastic "Flutie Flute". When all the fans blew on them at the same time, angels appeared believing it was the signal of the coming Apocalypse.

It is confirmed that the "Hail Mary" has been changed to the "Hail Flutie", both in the football and religious sense.

Every football he touches must be properly buried in an elaborate ceremony complete with song.

Doug Flutie is so clever that one time he scored on a TD run by hiding in his fullback's rear pocket.

One time dropped kicked an extra point in Edmonton. At the time he was in Vancouver.

As for why Flutie played in the CFL for so long...
In 1990 a new rule was passed stating an NFL quarterback must be a minimum height of 6'0 in order to keep Doug Flutie from killing everyone. It was later repealed in 1997 on the grounds that the NFL wasn't awesome enough without him.

He spent eight years in Canuckistan. That's not just the Bears passing on him.

Yeah what is this about the Bears? He was drafted by the LA Rams... played in the USFL. Then went to the Bears. Played for the Patriots for a couple years THEN went to the CFL.

So the Rams, Bears, and Patriots all had him on their rosters and passed on him. And no one else in the NFL had any interest in him.

                            • I took a look at the '88 and '89 Patriots on Flutie's first stint with the team. In 1988, Flutie started after Grogan threw 4 TDs to 12 INTs in 5 games. Flutie did his miserable barely 50% passing performance with 8 TDs and 10 INTs.

The next year, 1989, Flutie started 3 games throwing 4 INTs and was lost in the shuffle on a team that saw such luminaries as a late-career Grogan, Marc Wilson, and Tony Eason all get at least 3 starts each. He couldn't beat out those, by anyone's reasonable definition, BUMS, for the starting job.

This is actually true, at least up here.

Albert, that's a list of crappy, dysfunctional organisations. He was voted number 1 all time up here, Warren Moon included. That to me tells me that the teams that drafted him did not properly develop him. Look at it this way, if there's that large a gap between one player and the rest of the league, that tells me that whoever evaluated him screwed up.

Teams make mistakes all the time.
