  • Saying that I could see BCS moving them to number 1, but that I don't agree that Oregon is number 1 or 2 is incoherent? How much plainer can I say it? You're an idiot.

    • Yes, it is. And it's wrong, to boot. Even better, it's wrong in a way that highlights your misunderstanding of the BCS rankings. Saying the BCS will do anything to affect the rankings does the same.

      • If the BCS pairings were chosen today, this is what we'd get:

BCS National Championship: Auburn vs. Oregon

        BCS #1 and #2.

Rose Bowl: Michigan State vs. Boise State

Michigan State is obvious. Boise goes here because the Rose Bowl is required to choose any non-power-conference team that automatically qualifies with its replacement pick the first time it has the opportunity to. Boise at #3 is in AQ position (it would have to drop to #12 to lose it; but realistically it's more like #16 because the Big East doesn't even have a team on the BCS standings).

Orange Bowl: Florida State vs. Pittsburgh

Florida State goes here as the ACC champion. The Orange has second pick for fill-ins, so you don't think they would choose Pittsburgh, but the Big East champ has to be taken (sigh) and this is the place that makes the most sense for them from a geographic and matchup standpoint.

From there you have two options for the other two bowls depending on who the last at-large is. Missouri goes to the Fiesta as the Big 12 champ, and Alabama gets chosen by the Sugar as its replacement. TCU makes it in on the strength of its BCS ranking, so the final slot goes to either Oklahoma or Wisconsin (as good as Utah is, there's no way the non-power-conferences get three bids and TCU is ahead of Utah in the pecking order for now). The two things to keep in mind here are that the Sugar chooses first and that Oklahoma can't go to the Fiesta because there's no way the bowls will match two teams from the same conference. So we get either:

        Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Oklahoma
        Fiesta Bowl: Missouri vs. TCU

        or:

        Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. TCU
        Fiesta Bowl: Missouri vs. Wisconsin

I personally think the former pairing would be more likely in that scenario, but I'm hoping that Oklahoma will flame out and make it a moot point.

What is what? Never mind. I don't have the time nor the inclination to keep explaining to your dumb ass.

You can join Sloww in the "doesn't understand how the BCS rankings work" box. Boise is #3 in the BCS, which means it is not yet poised to go to the NC. Auburn is #1 and Oregon #2.

WTF does that matter? Evidently it doesn't matter at all, by the way you and others have been running your mouths.

                  • That particular point wasn't addressed to you, you senile old coot. BK was prematurely celebrating that Boise was "in the title game" (I assume based on the AP/Coaches poll rankings), but it's the BCS ranking that matters for the National Championship, and right now BSU is at #3 there.

Provided Auburn and Oregon don't lose any games for the rest of the season, Boise isn't going to Glendale.

                    • I honestly don't understand how anyone could put OSU about Wisky now that Wisky has not only beaten the Buckeyes, but went into Iowa City and beat the Hawkeyes. The only good team OSU has beaten so far is Miami, and even that depends mightily upon one's definition of "good".

                        • If anyone's curious, Temple destroyed Buffalo 42-0 last week helped with a change at QB for Temple, the yearly mid-season QB change for Coach Al Golden (DiMichelle to Charlton in 2008, Charlton to Stewart in 2009, now Stewart to this kid, Gerardi). If Temple could get consistent QB play every year, they'd be major conference capable. Winless 0-8 Akron is up next tomorrow.

Michigan has what should be a winnable game tomorrow at Penn State. But, it is on the road, under the lights, in Happy Valley, facing a whiteout. D-Rob & Co should be able to outscore PSU, but even one turnover might be too much for the UM defense to overcome. I'm guessing Nittany Lions by 3.

Illinois beat Penn State. Therefore anyone can do it.
