  • I don't think any of the games currently underway are going to have an effect on my Top Ten. Lots of movement, I'm still sort of winging it between best schedule to date and my general sense of which teams are likely to win a hypothetical matchup...

    1. Auburn
    2. Boise State
    3. Oklahoma
    4. Oregon
    5. Michigan State
    6. TCU
    7. LSU
    8. Utah
    9. Stanford
    10. Wisconsin

The next few in no particular order: Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Florida State, Arizona, Iowa, Nevada*, Oregon State*, Arkansas, Nebraska
    *if they win tonight

Apropos of nothing, hypothetically, how ****ty would it be if the Broncos were passed up for a NC berth at the end of the season by, of all teams, the Sooners?

    • You're still not giving TCU enough credit. Not that it makes you worse than other pollsters, I'm just expressing an opinion. Texas and Texas Tech will bounce back next year.
Big 12 and SEC. I know. I've been told over and over. I'm full of crap.

      • Oh, I think TCU is quite good, Tex. But, as I said, I'm factoring in schedule to date, and other than the Beavers (who are still a bit of a mystery), they haven't played a single good team. Yet. That changes next week (against the Falcons), and later this season with the Utes. If they win out, they'll be right there.

            • The Warriors have jumped all over the Wolf Pack, 17-0 midway thru the second quarter. Assuming Nevada is unable to mount a comeback after flying to the middle of the Pacific Ocean, we'll do the Undefeated Report without them...

There are now 10 undefeated teams. Goodbye Buckeyes, Wolf Pack, and Cornhuskers.

Big 12 (3): Oklahoma (at Missouri), Missouri (vs. Oklahoma), Oklahoma State (vs. Nebraska)
Big Ten (1): Michigan State (at Northwestern)
Mountain West (2): TCU (vs. Air Force), Utah (vs. Colorado State)
              Pac-10 (1): Oregon (vs. UCLA)
SEC (2): Auburn (vs. LSU), LSU (at Auburn)
WAC (1): Boise State (vs. Louisiana Tech)

Two big, big games matching undefeated teams this week:

              Oklahoma at Missouri
              LSU at Auburn

Both are tough to predict. On the one hand... it's Mizzou. But, they impressed today, while the Sooners have been hot and cold. If Oklahoma is on its "cold" setting on the road, the Tigers have a shot. I'm not betting on it, though; Sooners by 14.

As for the other game... yikes. Predicting the outcome for any game either team has played this season would've been a fool's errand; really, absolutely nothing would surprise me in this game, including a completely surprise-free 7-3 snoozefest. Auburn's got home field; LSU has both a rabbit's foot and a complete madman for a head coach. Any given week, there's even odds that's a huge advantage or a huge disadvantage, or both simultaneously. I'll take Auburn by 10, but Les Miles could swing that by 20 points in either direction just by himself.

Other unbeatens had best be on upset alert...

...If Sparty is the Same Old Sparty, this is the game they're going to lose. Looking ahead to Iowa, on the road, and against a lightly-regarded Northwestern team that is decent and has a history of smacking Sparty around. I'm just not sure this is the Same Old Sparty.
...TCU finally gets challenged again, hosting an Air Force squad that is coming off a tough loss to the Aztecs. Frogs should roll, but the Falcons went on the road and gave the Sooners fits a few weeks ago, so overconfidence could be deadly.
...Oklahoma State hosts a likely-pissed-off Nebraska team looking to rebound after today's turd sandwich.
...Oregon really, really, really shouldn't have any troubles with the Bruins. But, they typically lose a complete head-scratcher at some point during conference play, and UCLA is Team Multiple Personality Disorder.
...Utah and Boise State would win while blindfolded and chained to those old-time prison lead weights.

Ultimately, I think only the Cowboys go down, leaving us with seven undefeated squads.

Not sure, after today. They weren't anywhere near their average in their loss to the Aztecs, but they were probably close enough.

Yeah, that was bad, but it just made up for the bull**** PI call that set up Arkansas' touchdown right before it. That game was rife with horrible officiating both ways.

                  • That said, like reismark, I'll take it. Giving up 43 and still winning by three touchdowns? Pretty sure that's a first in Auburn history. What's much less unprecedented is making a backup QB look like an All-American. Jesus titty-****ing Christ, I wish we'd stop doing that.

                    • Yeah. I have Auburn #1, but of all the remaining undefeated teams, I'd put them near the bottom in most likely to finish undefeated, primarily due to that defense and propensity to playing down to their competition. Better odds than OkSt, Mizzou, and LSU, but all the others are more likely to win out than War Eagle.

                          • Not doing my rankings yet, as the Nevada Hawaii game has consequences for mine.

Anyways, the BCS has 4 more outs.

                            They need 2 undefeateds.

                            Oregon 6-0

                            Auburn 7-0
                            LSU 7-0

                            Oklahoma 6-0
                            Oklahoma St 6-0
                            Missouri 6-0

                            Michigan St 7-0

This is all they have left. At most 4 BCS unbeatens. Losing OSU means that unless Michigan St runs the table, the BCS hopes rest on the SEC + Big 12 or SEC + Oregon or the Big 12 + Oregon.

Assuming SEC chaos that means that the BCS is really down to two teams, the Sooners and the Ducks.

That's it. Either one goes down, we are looking at a Boise national championship.
