Man, that's a harsh loss. 5-1 on predictions though. Missed the EPW blowout, but I called the Slowwy comeback. This is just like last year. JR had the hardest luck and Slowwy had the best.

Eh, both of them had about a 50-50 shot at winning, depending on who they faced. The actual outcome seemed especially appropriate.

One tackle by Revis, one more catch by Bowe... or one less throw to Boldin. And so it goes.

Of course, I had a nice collection of WRs on my bench (Naanee, Aromashadu, Royal) who each outscored my combined starting duo of Andre Johnson and Bowe.

Apparently the football gods do not consider last year to be sufficient karmic payback for my 2007-2008 run of winning all 5 leagues I played in.

EPW, that 50-50 assertion is stupid, as it is based on final scores. I was within 2.5 points with a full game to go, and had a very good WR going against a suspect pass defense. The odds of Bowe, in good health, not winning the game for me is actually pretty damned steep.

You forget that Bowe sucks and has bricks for hands. Oh and Cassel is a terrible QB, possibly the worst starting QB in the NFL. I doubt this will be the only 1 catch game for Bowe this season.

I also saw the best CB in football pull in a 0.00 for me last night. I know teams tend to throw away from Revis, but is a single freaking tackle, even in run support, too much to ask?

Revis and Bowe combining for only 1.65 when healthy and not fumbling is extremely unlikely.

Battlin' Ben's week 2 predictions. [[5-1]]

I went 5-1 last week with some pretty good calls. But this week is a completely different week.

So let's dig in.

Ben Kenobi (4) vs Guynemer (2)

This is matchup of the week.

Yahoo: 172.34 Guy - 144.08 Ben

QB: Peyton Manning vs Philip Rivers? I'd love to wax on about how NYG has an excellent pass rush and how they will contain Peyton Manning. I could also wish for a million dollars and a pony for Christmas. 71 points last week, nuff said. Advantage Guy.

RB: Mathews/Thomas/Sproles vs Jackson/LT/Harrison.

On paper all three RBs (Sproles included), are ranked higher than any of mine. I'm really not sure why. Sproles had a terrible game. Mathews did well, but LT beat him out, despite not scoring a TD. And the PT Cruiser? Up against one of the better Run D's and rated at 15.37? Bank it that Guy gets blown out by the RBs. Advantage Ben.

WR:Welker/Thomas vs Colston/Driver. On paper, this is even. But Welker is against the number 1 pass D, and Thomas against SD which limited Bowe to nothing, while Driver and Colston are against two terrible pass Ds. Advantage Ben.

DEF: I'd love to say I have the best defense, but I don't. I have solid pluggers, while Guy has Bell, Dansby, Cole and Flowers. I think that gives him the edge.

My prediction: 145 Ben - 142 Guy.

I edge out Guy on the strength of my WR and RBs for an upset victory.

Snoopy (11) vs Tuberski (12)

Two teams that drastically underachieved last week.

Yahoo - Tuberski 143.39 - Snoopy 134.89

QB: Flacco vs Schaub. Both underacheived this week, but I don't think we'll see Schaub putting up 10 points again. Schaub, and it won't be close.

RB: Ray Rice/Shonn Greene/Michael Bush vs Turner/Moreno/Jacobs.

The wildcard here is Jacobs. Can Indy patch up their run D in a game? Doubtful. With Mr. Fumble and a Raider this goes to Tuberski despite the heroic efforts of Ray Rice.

WR: Moss/Ochocinco vs White/Crabtree.

Against the all diva team, White will have another solid outing. Tough, tough matchups for Snoopy. This one goes to Tuberski even with Crabtree against NO as Roddy White makes up the difference.

DEF: Finally an area where snoopy excells, but it won't be enough.

130 Tuberski - 120 Snoopy.

JRabbit (8) vs Coldwizard (6)

Close matchup between two middle of the road teams. JR had a heartbreaker last week, will he win this time?

QB: Cutler vs Brady. Ordinarily a marquee matchup both face among the toughest defenses. This one goes to Coldwizard as Cutler adds a few more picks.

WR: Johnson/Naanee/Royal vs Johnson/Breaston. Some interesting offbeat changes on both sides. Bowe after his amazing performance has been benched in favour of the young up and comer. I'm really not sure what to make of the Chargers pass O, given my stake in Floyd and Gates, so we'll see how Naanee will do. Breaston is an interesting choice. He's been on my radar for some time. Advantage JR.

RB: Gore/Forte vs Peterson/Bush/McFadden. The curse of the Raiders strikes again as Peterson fumbles one away. Gore and Forte have tough defenses, but I think this one goes to JR.

DEF: This one goes to CW. Jared Allen, Harris, Briggs, Manning is one of the best defenses up there.

This comes down to the wire. Despite AP having a bad game, CW pulls out a win. 138 CW -135 JR.

One of the matchups between two teams searching for bragging rights.

QB: Carson Palmer vs Eli. Will Carson Palmer put up 40 again? No, but he'll put up 30 and that will be good enough against Eli handing the ball off all day.

RB: MJD/Jackson/Addai vs Johnson/Brown/Stewart. Stewart at 11.07 after his horrible performance last week? Not happening. 17.15 for Jackson in his first career start? Crazier things have happened, see Foster, Arien. This one goes to Koya.

WR: Fitz/Moss vs Jackson/Austin. This one is not close. EPW wins this going away.

DEF: Despite excellent linebackers, Willis, Morrison, Lewis and DJ Williams, Patrick Chung? Really? Ok, good luck EPW.

Koya in a blowout. 150 Koya - 125 - EPW.

Slowwy (5) vs Berz (10)

Another close close matchup, and we all know what happens with Slowwy and close matchups.

QB: Ryan vs Rodgers. This is Buffalo. 'Nuff said. Rodgers bounces back and puts up 40. Advantage Berz.

WR: Ward/Boldin/Nicks vs Cribbs/Marshall/McCluster.

Berz makes an intriguing change to his starting lineup with adding another Chief. Interesting play. Personally, TN has one of the worst passing defenses and Ward is underrated. McCluster also doesn't run one back for a TD. This goes to Slowwy.

RB: Mendenhall/Bradshaw vs Charles/Forsett. Not really sold on Forsett, but Mendenhall and Bradshaw have good matchups. Forsett slips some, and that's enough for Slowwy to win with a good night from Bradshaw.

DEF: Ruud/Ware have a better time out than the no-name D.

Slowwy with the luck of the Irish wins out another close one.

Jag (1) vs Zopper (9)

Jag's been steamrolling over everyone. Can he roll for another week?

QB: Brees vs Romo. Both had a bit disappointing outcomes last week. Both will bounce up but I have to go with Brees here.

WR: Smith/Maclin vs Wayne/Harvin/Jennings. Interesting to see Jag give Harvin another crack and go three wide. I'm also assuming that Zopper starts Maclin over the big O, but who knows. This one should go to Jag either way.

RB: Foster/Jones vs Williams/McCoy/Hillis.

I'm assuming here that Zopp starts Hillis over Cadillac and Gaffney. This one should go to Zopper, if for nothing than Foster is going to fall back to the mean.

DEF: Beason/Greenway/Freeney/Branch vs Osi, Laurinaitis and Demeco? Great, great defenses. I'll call this a wash.

Jag 160 - Zopper 140.

Zopper has a decent outing but just doesn't have enough horses.

If it's Fred Jackson, it's advantage Guy. Steven, advantage Ben, but not by as much as you think it is. It's borderline push with Steven.
