    Not possible.

I think you need a reminder of how great Barry Sanders was...

    Barry Sanders:
151 games over 10 years... 15,269 rushing yards, 2921 receiving, and a 5.0 career yards per carry average.

    LT:
141 games over 9 years... 12,490 rushing yards, 3955 receiving, and a 4.3 career yards per carry average.

Yeah, LT scored TDs but you can't be serious that LT is better than Barry Sanders... LT still needs 2779 rushing yards to catch up and he has to do it in 10 games.

And look at the ypc difference!

In 1997, Sanders ran for 2053 yards and averaged 6.1 ypc. LT has never done that.

And it's not like it's Sanders at #1 then LT at #2... Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, and Marshall Faulk all were better than LT. Hell, considering that Jim Brown and OJ were playing only 14 games, those guys are above LT!

    • And Barry played for a team that generally sucked. In most of their games, by the fourth quarter they were so far behind that they were reduced to throwing the ball.

      • Quibbles. LT is great, Barry Sanders is better. Thomas Jones' best season was not last year. It was 2008. When he played two fewer games, but had a 4.5 ypc mark compared to 4.2, and only 1 rushing TD less. In addition he had more receptions, recieving yards, and recieving TDs, resulting in more yards from scrimmage in 2008 and more total TDs in 2008.

Jim Brown is obviously the best running back. His first 4 seasons were actually 12 game seasons. And Sanders is #2.

          • I'm sorry, just checked in to this thread for ****s and giggles, and I think I must be having a stroke.

Did Ben seriously suggest that LT is better than Barry Sanders?

Though I think OJ Simpson has a great argument about being #2.

I disagree on the grounds that OJ had a great 5 year run whereas Sanders was consistently excellent for 10.

My list has LT, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith.

As for Marshall Faulk, how is he better than LT?

                    12279 yards, 100 TD, 6875 yards receiving.

                    12490 yards, 138 TD, 3955 yards receiving.

LT has outrushed him, in only 9 seasons, compared to 12 for Faulk.

                      • Why Marshall Faulk deserves to be considered among the best?

                        1998: 86 catches for 908 yards
                        1999: 87 for 1048
                        2000: 81 for 830
                        2001: 83 for 765

WHAT RUNNING BACK CAN DO THAT? Most #2 wide receivers can't pull off those numbers!

And those extra years at the end of his career... Faulk should have retired when he hit 30. He was injury prone and no where near as productive after his 10th season. Like LT will be

Unless a runningback began his career as a backup like TJones, Tiki, or Warrick Dunn, once you hit 30, you're finished. Only a select few like Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith remained productive as full-time starters going into their 30's. LT is not among those guys because those guys never skipped a beat. Their yardage and yards per carry went down sure but not significantly so... not like how much LT has dropped the last two years.

LT had more receptions than Marshall Faulk ever had.

                              Faulk dropped too many balls.

That guy was simply amazing to watch. Saw him in person, in his prime, back when the Bears played at Wrigley. (Yes, I'm that old.)

Gayle was born too soon, as his medical issues could be dealt with much more effectively even a decade later. Shame his career was so short.
