I grew up with, and got used to, a player staying with one team.
I have 3 favorite players. Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly and Walter Payton. I think for me to name Payton says a lot for Payton.

EDIT: to add, it doesn't say a lot because I'm the pronouncer of greatness, only because of naming the other two as Cowboys and recognizing Payton rather than Emmitt Smith or Tony Dorsett, who holds a record that can't be broken.
That's what I mean.

I became a bit disillusioned when I learned first-hand what a skirt-chaser he was. But as Tiger has demonstrated, it's always a mistake to confuse a man's personal life with his athletic career.

It was a different era, when discretion was still possible. There wasn't a digital device lurking everywhere, ready to capture text, photos and video for instant publication. So many a reputation remained intact, despite the down-low knowledge of various locals.

It really sucks to be a celebrity today. (Well, except for the fame and money and stuff.)

My sister was bartender in a nice joint. I was there one night and saw him pick up a blonde. Sister told me she'd seen it more than once, and it was always a blonde. I felt really bad for Connie and the kids.

Walter Payton was a great man, but certainly no saint.

True enough Jr. My love for teams is based on the franchise, not individual players. To think that your loyality should change just because of single player just means you really weren't a supporter of the team.

Team shmeam. Teams are just businesses these days. As such, they don't inherently deserve my support more than any other corporation. I've always been more player oriented than team oriented, which before free agency wasn't a problem. Having my favorite childhood players get cut or traded (or even retiring) really culled my interest in the non-NFL sports where I didn't have new favorite players to replace them. Who was I supposed to like on the Knicks after they traded Ewing? Luc Longley? NFL is the first sport I liked, so maybe that's why it's held my interest the longest, though if Snyder runs the Redskins into the ground, I might jump ship. Maybe by then I'll be old enough to enjoy golf

If that's how you decide your "loyalities"... fine, but don't ever try to say that you were a San Diego fan. You obviously aren't and never really were. Just join the list

Obviously I didn't grow up with them as I did the Canucks. All I ask is that LT retires with them. Then I'll have no complaints about the coming Rivers era.

They also dumped him like a sack of crap. The Bolts are the only team to take a chance on him, who allowed him to start.
