**** sandwiches like the Fiesta Bowl matchup are why the major bowls love to have schools like ND and will do what it takes to keep them happy in the BCS agreement. Other major northern schools with good followings and schools like Nebraska likewise do good business for the bowls.

No no no. My system only allows conference champs with a maximum of one loss. OSU, GT, Nebraska, all **** outta luck, at least as far as national championships go.

Sorry, I forgot about that wrinkle. I approve of your playoff idea then, but you must know that there's no way such a system will go into effect. Any plausible playoff would have to have the same amount of teams and games every season so they could sell the TV rights to it. A playoff that only includes one-loss conference champs (or, even better, undefeated conference champs) would be the best overall solution, but will never happen due to practical issues.

In the choice between practical options (BCS vs a 2, 4 or 8-team playoff), I choose the BCS.

No one can think outside of the box when it comes to this, which is what college football requires. 120 teams, only playing ~12 games each... there's no perfect way to pick a champ in these circumstances, but the way we have now is downright laughable.

I don't really mind the BCS. Sure, it's chaotic and unfair and downright puzzling at times, but college football has always been like that. The BCS preserves most of what has made college football great in the past while ensuring that something like the Nebraska-Michigan split national title in 1997 doesn't happen again. That's good enough for me until someone can come up with a better system that doesn't turn college football into a lesser version of the NFL.

Shows how little you know about real college football. Did you even watch to see their real reaction to not getting a chance to prove they could be national champion. You think that the MONEY is what they wanted? Instead, they wanted to talk about how they could prove on the field that they are the best team... but alas, the terrible BCS system, a system not even run by the NCAA, screwed them of their chance. Only College Football lets somebody else decide who their champion is. Totally shameful.

There could be three undefeated teams when it's all over with. But sure, defend the ole boy money network that controls the sport. Yeah, far superior to a real playoff system... no way. But because they have been screwing it up for years, you want it because it's a tradition.

They've just made a joke out of the regular season. It doesn't seem to matter what a team does on the field anymore... a bunch of rich old white guys sit in a room... guys who have nothing to do with the sport, and pick teams so that the bowls can make the most money...
