This is a monumental turn of events, if not altogether unexpected. Carroll kept it up for quite a while and really had ND's number -- almost as much as Holtz had USC's number. In the final analysis, he's a better college football coach than Bear Bryant, and almost but not quite as good as Urban Meyer.
