If QB is a position so valuable that we take TWELVE of them in the first four rounds, and FOURTEEN in the first five, there's absolutely NO reason that we should then go for four consecutive rounds without picking one at all.

You're assuming that there is a continuous distribution of QB points. In reality there are discontinuities in QB value. It could be very well that the top 14 QBs are picked and then there is a significant drop off leading to the gaps.

Anyways, carry on. I don't understand the strategy, but I'm just a newbie learning the ropes.

Admittedly you do, so you probably don't care; unless you worry about possible injury, anyway.

Well that was one of my reasons for picking Rivers. I do care about injury, but I have more pressing needs to fill.

But if there's a 10% chance he'll play, then the return of a competent QB over a ****ty QB is 15 ppg, then 1.5ppg is the net return, right? That's more than the #2K to the #7K on most intelligently drawn up draft boards.

It's also about risk. If your QB goes down with an injury, and you have to play Matthew Stafford at QB, you're pretty much screwed, right?

The more slots you have to fill, the more likely you will need a backup at the position. I can see RB3 and WR3, or RB4 and WR4 before I can see QB2.

The other thing is yes, there will likely be 28 QBs picked. There are 32 NFL starters. Even with the number 28 QB, you are getting a starting QB.

F'Rinstance, 28 is Kerry Collins. Sure he ain't superb, but he's going to fill in fine.

Stafford is going to be good, I'm telling you. He won't be as good this year as down the road, but he'll hold his own this year. He's smart, and very gifted with his skills.
I've watched him the last 5 years.

I agree that it's silly to BAPAY a QB who's lost his starting gig.
