France striker Nicolas Anelka has been sent home from South Africa after a foul-mouthed outburst at the coach Raymond Domenech
Not surprising to see le sulk do something so idiotic. He's only 31 as well, not like he's well and truly past it. Supposedly he's retired from international football as well, FWIW given the FFA surely would never pick him again.
The reported bust-up is just the latest in what has been a string of rumours about unrest within the France camp and claims Domenech has lost the support of his players. The under-fire Domenech has brushed aside concerns rivals Uruguay and Mexico may manufacture a draw in their final Group A match to ensure they progress to the knockout stages at the expense of Les Bleus. France have to convincingly beat hosts South Africa on Tuesday and hope there is a positive result in the other fixture.
With so much at stake it has been suggested the two teams from the Americas are more likely to settle for a stalemate rather than risk elimination.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

I'm not saying I think the penalty kick was the wrong decision. I just think the sending off was a bit harsh since it didnt appear to be deliberate (and I dont agree that it counts as a professional foul - which warrants a yellow anyway, as it did with Klose). We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Professional foul means a red card. Always.
Law 12 (4):
A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the following seven offences:
4) denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
EDIT: here's a pretty good explaination of it (http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afde...en_47379.pdf):
A player is sent off, however, if he prevents a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball. This punishment arises not from the act of the player deliberately handling the ball but from the unacceptable and unfair intervention that prevented a goal being scored.Last edited by Frozzy; June 19, 2010, 19:36.
