It has been a strange two games-- The top lines essentially battle to a stalemate and Detroit gets contributiond from "unexpected" parts of their lineup. Osgoode has been a difference- very very consistent. BUt it HAS been close-- Both of the first two games could have gone either way -- Unfortunately for the Pens they didn't get the split so now its backs against the wall time. If the Wings can muster a stellar effort now, this could be a very short series despite the fact that the Pens have been overall very good

Penguins doing better: they have 2 goals - Talbot, Letang. But the Wings do as well - Zetterberg and Franzen (and each got an assist). Each team's 2nd goal was on the PP.Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Ben Franklin

Pens played great tonight. Their defense was excellent, they were blocking shots all over the place, and Fleury was much sharper. The Wings still haven't played their best; how much of that is due to injuries and fatigue (three games in four days after only two days off) is not clear.
A question for my more knowledgable brethren to the North. If you didn't see the game, there was an interesting situation in the first period. Shortly after the Wings went up 2-1, the Pens had it deep in the Wings zone with six attackers, and had not pulled their goalie. This situation lasted about ~10 seconds or so by my count. The officials simply did not see it, despite rather animated shouting from the Red Wings bench (to say nothing of the announcers).
Ultimately, the extra man got off the ice, and nothing came of it. My question is this: what if the Pens had scored with too many men on the ice, and the officials only noticed it after the goal? Could they cancel the goal? Or could they review the play on tape? Or would the goal stand, even if they recognized it immediately after the fact? If so, would all six Pens get a +1 in their +/-? And how many Bettmen conspiracy theorists would've had their heads explode?"My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

Not reviewable, however I would assume one of the linemen would have noticed. They cannot blow play dead, but they can inform the refs of a problem after the play is blown dead (like when a goal is scored). I would hazard a guess that the goal would not count.
It would be very strange. The Pens would have a goal called back and a bench penalty called, in a worst case. I want to say I've never heard of it, but something is ringing a bell that something like this happened during the regular season this or last.(\__/)

It was a Pens-Devils game in Pittsburgh in Oct '07. Malkin had a goal called back, and the Pens were assessed a penalty.
The teams traded man-advantage goals within the first seven minutes of the second - by Gonchar and Zajac - before the controversy began.
The Penguins appeared to take a 4-3 lead with 7:36 left in the second when Jordan Staal fed Malkin during a 2-on-0 - but Pittsburgh was called for too many men. No whistle blew and neither referee appeared to raise his arm before the goal.
"I think we had seven, they might have had seven," said Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who had two assists. "They had too many guys on the ice, period, I don't know how that works."
That led to several in the sellout crowd of 16,990 to litter the ice and boo throughout the ensuing power play...(\__/)

The Flames had a goal called back and a penalty called on the same play (not for this though, it was "goaltender interference") some months ago. A cluster**** of reffing that was.Originally posted by notyoueither View PostNot reviewable, however I would assume one of the linemen would have noticed. D'oh! Wings looked tired tonight, had a bunch of turnovers upon which the Pens capitalized.
Well, back to the Joe, Wings must win to stop the Pens' momentum.

Wings up 5-0 after 2!
Pens were dominating early in the 1st, but Wings killed off a PP, scored first and the tide turned. They had a PP to start the 2nd, scored soon after it expired. And it's been all Wings.
Datsyuk's finally back, no goals, but has 2 assists. Hossa still no goals, but has 1 assist. Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Ben Franklin

Missed game four while on vacation, managed to catch most of the game last night. The Pens were melting down like the Hawks were last round."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

I hope that first penalty call is not an indicator of how they'll call the game.
