  • Heisman has **** to do with NFL ability. Look at the glorious pro careers of Eric Crouch, Chris Weinke, Danny Wuerffel, Charlie Ward, Gino Toretta, Andre Ware, just looking at some QBs.

    "Best QB of his generation"??????

Sure, if you ignore all the QBs better than he: Dan Marino, John Elway, Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Bernie Kosar, just to name a few. I'm sure people can come up with others.

    • I'm in over "best QB of his generation" clap trap!

Oh, and btw, neither Dan Marino, John Elway, Joe Montana, Bernie Kosar, Boomer Esaison or Steve Young won the Heisman .

The man only won a Heisman, and the Bears ditched him after a year?
Love that Beniverse... Best college QB of his generation is still too generous.

Let's see, one playoff game, 11-for-31, 1 TD, 2 INTs. He was a deer in headlights on the field. I saw the game.

And then the guy becomes a union scab. Do you realize what kind of poison that is to team unity? Ditka is a union man. Chicago is a union town. Flutie would have been HATED here.

I understand that you love the guy, Ben. But you don't know the facts.

Try again: "Heisman is generally negatively correlated with NFL ability".

Also, I'd lump Joe Montana in his generation ...

          • The Bet with Ben Kenobi

If the Chargers are favoured on the spread, I'll wear an avatar of your choice.

If Indy is favoured, You'll wear an avatar of my choice.

The bet will be off if:
            1. Chargers lose next week.
            2. A major injury on either team
            3. It's rated a push.

We will use Danny Sheridans opening day spread.

The avatar selection will last for two weeks, and start when when take our holiday avatars down.

Opening day spread by Danny Sheridan:

            NFL Playoffs
            Saturday, Jan. 3
Atlanta Falcons 2 ARIZONA CARDINALS 51
Indianapolis Colts 1 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS 51

Baltimore Ravens 3 MIAMI DOLPHINS 37
Philadelphia Eagles 3 MINNESOTA VIKINGS 42

Every home team is a dog for the opening week.

It was close, but the Colts are the favorites

                • Dammit.

My prediction of Chargers +1 was closer then Ming's. I really wish you had gone for splitting the difference between Chargers +1 and Indy +4.

That, BTW is a quote from Madden. :P

I'd argue he was better then all of them. He was a damn good QB, the best I've ever seen and that includes Montana, Young and Marino.

                        Elway was crap.

                          • 1. Using a quote from Madden as evidence of something is like using a quote from the crazy cat lady in the Simpsons.
                            2. Flutie was nowhere near as good as the above QBs, sorry. If he were, he'd have been playing in the NFL at that level. The fact that he scabbed and then left the league for a decade tells you something - nobody would throw away that sort of career for nothing.
                            3. Again, entirely irrelevant how good he was considering the union issue - he had to leave because of the scabbing, plain and simple.

Elway may have been an ass, but he was a great QB...

You're evaluating his performance based on his rookie season?

                              Let's see.

                              1. Montana was much older then Flutie, 8 years difference, so I don't think they are really the same 'generation'.

                              2. Marino was 5 years older then Flutie, which is quite a distance, considering that Flutie didn't really start until the 90's in the CFL, which makes him more contemporary to those who came later then the big generation in the early 80's.

Aikman, yes. Aikman started in '89. Young, yes. So the comparison should be between him and Young, rather then the others.

I think he's a better QB then Young, who was excellent.

And then the guy becomes a union scab. Do you realize what kind of poison that is to team unity? Ditka is a union man. Chicago is a union town. Flutie would have been HATED here.
How's that working out for you folks?

I understand that you love the guy, Ben. But you don't know the facts.
                              How about these ones?

                              4,286 completions, 7,276 attempts 58.9 completion pct 58,179 yards, 369 TDs 237 INTs.

That's not quite as much as Marino, Flutie also didn't have his first productive season until 1990.

                              Compare that with Steve Young:

                              2,667 completions, 4,149 attempts, 33,124 yards, 232 TDS and 107 INTs.

                              • You're trying to suggest that CFL stats are remotely comparable to NFL stats? Might as well compare them to college stats ... probably closer to reality.
