    Hey ben

Did you abandon your claims that Nashville did not deserve to be in the playoffs once you say that the Central beat the NW overall in head to head meetings?

oh ya and your Canucks ended up tied with Edmonton and Chicago in points but behind them in the standings--

The only stat that even somewhat helps your position is that the NW teams had a total of 10 points more than the Central over the 82 games. So the teams averaged a SINGLE win more per team-- harly evidence of clear superiority and skewed by Edmonton's disproportionate number of Shootout points

That does not surprise me in the slightest. Whether its sports, or some political cause, its often people only marginally related to the event or cause that are doing the violence.

UNfortunate since now MOntreal police will probably be cracking heads

        Hmm?

The stat Guy cited wasn't correct. Read again.

Guy says that the record of the NW vs the Central, is different from the Central vs the NW.

Um, ben, if the Central beat the NW in head to head matchup, how does that prove anything? It just proves that the NW played more games that went to OT...

Ben is so lovable, why are you guys so mean to him?

He's clearly correct, the only reason Vancouver missed the playoffs was because everything else sucked. Vancouver's implosion down the stretch had nothing to do with it.

Dion Phaneuf, at age 22, has snagged his first Norris nomination. Not that he's going to come close to winning this year.

LIDSTROM, CHARA, PHANEUF NOMINATED FOR NORRIS TROPHY

There is something to be said for consistency.

The National Hockey League has released the finalists for the 2007-2008 Norris Trophy, awarded to the league's best defencemen. Leading the way is five-time winner Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings. This is Lidstrom's ninth nomination in the last 10 years.

Lidstrom was the key figure in the league's best defence - the Red Wings gave up just 2.16 goals-per-game. The 15-year veteran led all defencemen in scoring with 10 goals and 60 assists and was second in the league in plus/minus with a +40.

Lidstrom will be challenged by Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins and Dion Phaneuf of the Calgary Flames.

Chara had 17 goals and 34 assists this year while averaging the third most ice time (26:50) in the league. Chara finished second to Scott Niedermayer for the Norris back in 2004.

This is the first Norris trophy nomination for the 23-year old Phaneuf. The third-year player led the Flames in ice time (26:25), hits (194) and led all Calgary defencemen in scoring with 60 points.

The NHL will award the Norris June 12th in Toronto.

Lidstrom will still win though, but good for Dion!

MY sentiments exactly-- I don't think anyone can seriously argue for anyone other than Lidstrom to win the Norris but I am pleased that Phaneuf's contributions are being recognized

Just thought I would point out Asher inconsistency before BK did!

Someone ought to check his stats!

He was 22 throughout the entire regular season, which is what the award is for.

He turned 23 during the playoffs. His birthday is April 10th.

But thank you for trying to be pedantic...

But what a PAINFUL way to go. 9s left on a POWERPLAY in OT in GAME 7.

I'd be pissed if I was Washington.

                                I'm disappointed for the Caps.

This game should never have gone to OT. The refs practically gave the Flyers a goal in the second period - a Cap was pushed by a Flyer on Huet who bounced like 4 feet away.

In any case, the Flyers are mincemeat now.
