    The NFL vastly overrates -- and overpays -- its first-round picks. It's something the league has to address, as there are too many quality veterans (even All-Pros) being paid far below these unproven rookies, some of whom are inevitably disappointments. Screws up the salary structure bigtime.

    [I believe -- OK, "hope" is more accurate) that a structured rookie salary cap is one of the league's (owners') goals in recently opting out of the collective bargaining agreement.]

                Oilers swap Stoll and Greene for Visnovsky.

                Visnovsky's got a $5.6 mil cap hit for the next 5 years.

                This is pretty comical:
                Visnovsky - 5.6 million
                Souray - 5.4 million
                Gilbert - 4.0 million

                Those are three suspect players to have as your top 3 d-men, I'd think...with some massive, long term salaries.

                        Sorry, looks like it's 9.5 and not 11. That makes all the difference.

                        It's 11 in cap hit, which is actually the important number.

                          Why the **** is he getting $5M in salary in 2011/2012?

                          He's got 39 points in 94 career games with a -7, and he's signed to a high-priced long-term contract through 2013?

                              Just to put this in perspective...

                              Robyn Regehr + Dion Phaneuf are both cheaper in terms of cap space in 2011/2012 than Souray & Visnovsky.

                              In 2011/2012:
                              Souray & Visnovsky will be 36 years old each with a combined cap hit of $11M.
                              Regehr will be 33 and Phaneuf will be 28 with a combined cap hit of $10.5M.

                              This is what I'm laughing about. Souray and Visnovsky are one-dimensional powerplay quarterbacks that happen to suck ass at even strength. I'm pretty sure if you'd ask which pairing each team would prefer to have, Regehr & Phaneuf would win out every single time except to Oilers fans...

                              And the Gilbert thing, WTF. K-Lowe is trying some experiment of epic proportions on the backend, and so far it looks awesome from a Flames perspective.
