  • Well, if its any consolation, he'll probably have a White Sox cap when he lands in the Hall of Fame .

Well when it comes to Detroit sports teams I can always find the bright side. So just as I said when the Tigers were 0 and a gazillion that I was glad they played 162 games and not 16, I am glad the Pistons are playing in the NBA format and not the NCAA format . While the "1 loss and you are out" system is exactly what makes the NCAA format so exciting, the 7 game format is a better judge of the better team.. The Pistons could go down 0-2 and still be the odds on favorite to win their series but in the NCAA's The Piston's would already be on summer vacation.

As for the Tigers, remember the odds are against everybody, so for those who say that the team with the worst record in the league won't win the World Series, I say congrats on the daring prediction.

But seriously, if a gun were to be put to my head I would still honestly take the Tigers. Hopefully I can still say that in September (or May for that matter)

          • Chas Barkley on TNT tonight really ripped a new one for Rasheed for his lack of focus. Pretty negative on the whole Pistons team too -- saying they have the best talent in the East but are guilty of playing down to the level of their competition, depending too much on being able to just turn it on when they need too. Which is exactly what happened last year.

Oh, but wait, this is a baseball thread...

First time I've been able to say this in a decade or so... and we all know it won't last, so...

But, about this baseball sport thingy .

                      • The Blue Jays are morons. They weren't going to hit enough to make the playoffs WITH the Big Hurt. Now they definitely won't. Woohoo.

Meanwhile, my Yanks sit at .500 and finally get a day off. Yay. ARod pulled his quad (last year, hamstrings. This year, quads. WTF?), boo. Posada is still not catching. I'm now at alert level Orange over his shoulder. Hughes and IPK smacked around again, after issuing walks to any hitter that wants one. Hughes, in particular, needs to trust his stuff and throw it over the plate. IPK's nibbling I can understand, even if it is frustrating. Pettitte restored sanity. Joba's back, which is nice. He gave up a run, which isn't (he's not allowed to do that).

Meanwhile, the Rangers managed to blow a 5-0 late-inning lead to Boston. Thanks, fellas.

How exactly are the Blue Jays morons? They saved about $10 mil next year because the automatic option won't be activated because Thomas won't get 300 ABs this season with them.

It's actually a smart bit of business. Now they can use that money smarter.

                            • They're morons because they have no viable plan, and they clearly have delusions of competing this year. If they want to compete this year, they needed Thomas. If they want to rebuild, they need to friggin' rebuild... not sign guys like Eckstein, trade for guys like Rolen, etc.

I understand that they saved themselves $10 million for the 2009 season. I'd like to see evidence of any sort of coherent plan for building a contender before I retract my "morons!" charge.

Ninot: I don't know. By all indicatations, he will be back faster than Jeter was (less serious strain). He will probably miss a couple of games and may DH some... depending on Posada's status, I'd guess.

Considering the team with the worst record is the Nationals, I'll take that bet.
