I don't think you understand. Shootouts aren't hockey, they're stupid and I don't think they have bearing on the real game.

I think it should be a 1 pt each tie. I don't think giving points for shootouts makes any sense at all, it's not a hockey game.

Well I don't see why you are complaining so much. Calgary has earned 12 losses, without even making it to the shootout or OT. Eliminating the loser points will help not hurt you guys.

Because it's stupid, that's all. I don't think a team should be able to squeak into the playoffs on the basis of shootout points, and a LOT of teams have a lot of shootout points. Since the shootouts are irrelevant in playoffs, why use them in determining who gets to the playoffs?

hmm- The Flames outplayed the Ducks in large stretches of the game but still lost 4-1


Kipper-- mixed bag really-- The first two goals were not bad but the third seemed to be just a long bouncy puck. Once it was 3-1 he played well and actually stopped two clean breakaways. The 4th goal was a shorthanded emptynetter with FOUR minutes left (interesting choice by Keenan there)

So Kipper wasn't bad but Giguere made 38 stops and there were a number of great chances in there -- so once again Kipper was out-goaltended


The Ducks actually were outplayed lots but they just had some better execution around the net.

Oh and Phaneuf looked totally off his game-- I wondered if he has a nagging injury since he seemed to be stretching on the TV timeouts way way more than I have ever seen him or any of the Flames doing. MY personal awards

Mr invisible-- a tie between Huselius and Langkow
Hardest Working Flame-- Dustin Boyd with an honorable mention to Eric Nystrom

Keenan was actually using Boyd a lot late in the game


Best scrap-- Godard Parros taken by Godard in a close decision

It was actually a very entertaining game to watch but frustrating for a Flames fan

5-0 at the 10:30 point with a natural hat trick for Byfuglien... and two PPG both Toews-Kane-Byfuglien. I think Phoenix might want to try a different goalie...

Wow, two guys with three or more points on my team today... Parise has a hat trick and an assist, and Toews with a goal and two PP assists Finally my team has a nice breakout game...

Khabi just lost his shutout at 12:00 in the 3rd on a random dribbler, oh well.

Interesting week

As it stands, the player that TRAILS in the standings is leading EVERY matchup this week.

So if this stands up, the standings will be tightening quite a bit

For me, some bad goaltending is ruining those categories and my team is doing ist usual thing of being competitive in about half the offensive stats.

I am not that optimistic that things will improve much for me as wins and plus/minus and assists seem a lost cause

So when does the next season start?

Well I am no bandwagon jumper-- I still see this team as one that has sufficient talent to make the playoffs but with enough flaws that they are in no way an elite team.

Their record lately is largely a result of one factor-- goaltending-- Kipper is paid as and expected to be an ELITE goalie and he has not been. IF he had been performing at a level that was even "top 15" in the league, the Flames would have 6-10 more points.

So -- I wasn't super-high when they did better in October than I expected and I'm not super-low that they have stunk out November-- They are still very much in the hunt for a playoff spot-- If they keep limiting the opposing teams shots and chances like they have, you have to figure that they will start winning some games

Oh and I have never really agreed with Sutter's "one-goalie" approach and always thought there should be a solid backup available. I am starting to think that the Flames need to start seeing what exactly they have in that area. Perhaps just give Kipper 3-4 days off to work with his coaches and "reset" --- heck playing him every game hasn't worked so what exactly is there to lose?
